The Milwaukee Brewers are on the road as they finish up a three-game series with the Oakland A’s Thursday afternoon. In the opening game of the series, it was Oakland picking up a 3-2 victory in 10 innings Tuesday night. The pitching matchup for the middle game of the series Wednesday night saw the recently acquired Jordan Lyles take the mound for the Brewers: he was scheduled to face Oakland’s Brett Anderson.

Blue Jays rookie Trent Thornton (3-7, 5.45 ERA) is expected to be activated from the injured list prior to the game to make this start. The right-hander was sidelined with right elbow inflammation and will take the spot of Ryan Borucki, who was placed back on the IL after aggravating an elbow injury that has limited him to two starts in 2019.

With a little less than two months remaining in the regular season, the Boston Red Sox will be trying to stay in contention for one of the Wild Card spots in the American League when they face the Tampa Bay Rays in the final game of their three-game series on Thursday night.

The Houston Astros are on the road as they close up a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians Thursday night. In the opening game of the series, the Astros picked up a 2-0 victory on Tuesday night. The pitching matchup for Wednesday night’s middle game of the series saw Jose Urquidy take the mound for the Astros against the Indians’ Zach Plesac.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres will kick off a four-game NL West series Thursday night from Dodger Stadium. The Padres will send 26-year-old left-hander Joey Lucchesi to the mound, and the Dodgers will hand the ball to 31-year-old left-hander Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers feature a 5-4 lead in the season series.

An interleague showdown between the Milwaukee Brewers and Oakland Athletics will be featured in Wednesday’s late MLB action. A win over a tough team like the Brewers would go a long way in helping restore the confidence in an A’s team that is 5-5 in their last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Brewers recently bounced back with a series win over the Chicago Cubs after dropping a three-game home meeting with the Cincinnati Reds. Left-handed pitcher Gio Gonzalez is slated to go head-to-head with Oakland’s Brett Anderson on the mound.

Two of the few instances run support, or lack thereof, was not a factor for Kyle Hendricks this season was when he faced the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Texas Rangers will be trying to play themselves out of their current slump when they take on the Seattle Mariners in the final game of their two-game series on Wednesday night.

The Mariners have struggled this season, but they are playing well at the moment and entered this series on a five-game winning streak. They will be trying to keep the momentum going with a win over the struggling Rangers when they play on Wednesday night.

The Tampa Bay Rays are on the road for the middle game of a three-game set with the Boston Red Sox Wednesday night in the first game after the trade deadline for both teams. Tampa Bay won two of three from Toronto over the weekend, taking the rubber game 10-9 Sunday afternoon. Boston took three of four from the Yankees at home, losing the finale 9-6 Sunday night to miss a chance at a sweep. The pitching matchup for Tuesday’s series opener saw Charlie Morton take the mound for the Rays against Boston’s David Price.

The Colorado Rockies will host the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers as the NL West rivals conclude a three-game series Wednesday afternoon from Coors Field. The Dodgers will give the starting nod to 32-year-old left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu, and the Rockies counter with 24-year-old right-hander German Marquez. The Dodgers hold an 8-3 lead in the season series.
