Source for quick news and notes in and around the world of sports gambling, including local and offshore.

Surprising Stanley Cup Favorite

With approximately 20 games to go for most teams, who would be your best guess for the current favorite to win the Stanley Cup in the NHL Playoffs? If you said the expansion team Las Vegas Golden Knights then pat yourself on the back as you would be correct. The Golden Knights are currently listed at 5/1 to hoist the trophy followed by a few teams at 6/1.

A .500 record would have been considered a successful season but this team has taken the league by storm. Been a great ride for new and old hockey fans at the T-Mobile Arena. Hope they are not too spoiled going forward.

MLB Spring Training

MLB Spring training is now a few weeks old and both Cactus and Grapefruit league games are well underway. JD Martinez finally signed his much-anticipated deal with the Red Sox but it was substantially smaller and shorter than the mega $200 million-plus deal agent Scott Boras was seeking. The Red Sox check in around 7th as far as World Series favorites go in the preseason futures market at 12/1. The Red Sox bitter rival the New York Yankees check in atop the odds at only 5/1 to hang another World Series banner at Yankee Stadium.

Few big-name free agents remain unsigned two weeks into camp with the biggest name being Jake Arrieta. Teams are just not handing out the long-term huge money deals this offseason. They appear to have sharpened up and learned from mistakes of previous years. Those monster contracts seem to backfire more times than not and often end up looking like disasters down the road.

Supreme Court Still to Decide

We are still waiting for what could be the biggest decision in the world of sports gambling ever. And while we generally are hearing positive things and continue the wait the NCAA was nice enough to remind us that not everyone is on board for legalized sports wagering.
The NCAA wrote on its site that “The NCAA opposes all forms of legal and illegal sports wagering, which has the potential to undermine the integrity of sports contests and jeopardizes the welfare of student-athletes and the intercollegiate athletics community”. If it is left to states to decide will there be states that choose to omit the NCAA sports in their portfolios?

NBA Coming Down to Finish Line

With just over 20 games remaining in the regular season the team with the best record in the league is the Houston Rockets. The Rockets are currently 9/2 to win the title but despite having the best record in the league they are still 2nd to the Golden State Warriors for title-winning odds. The Warriors check in at 5/8 to hoist the trophy, which leads the NBA.

As the playoff season draws closer for the NBA another season begins. That season is tanking time and with a record number of teams below .500 at the all-star break, the losing could reach epic levels this season. Good luck punters and bookmakers alike as fans get ready to see some of their favorites they have never heard of taking the floor in clutch time.
