    The Tampa at the New Orleans should plant the legacy of Jameis Winston in the ground. All week we had to hear about this being the largest spread he has ever faced. That he has been only the underdog so many times. Even handicappers are parroting this. Know that Winston was almost a game manager at FSU. He had a defense to carry him in a lot of situations. Facing a track team in their own house, the Bucs defense is doomed. The learning curve for Jameis will be extreme and too much to overcome in this one. Look for the double digit blowout here.

    Form was closer to being held this week. Cutler got crushed figuratively and literally as visiting Arizona pasted them 48-23. San Fransisco regressed to what most thought they would be via a Steelers 43-18 rout. In a disruption of flow, Johnny Football came up big as the Browns beat down Marcus and the Titans 28-14. Let us see what else made the roll call in the 1PM quick hitters.

    Rex Ryan Same Old Song

    Brady got on them early and often. Buffalo climbed back into it with several passing touchdowns but in the end, New England skates by with an eight point win and ATS at Buffalo.

    Survivor Pool Burials

    All over the nation, survivor pools were gutted based on Tampa Bay’s win at New Orleans. Interesting that so many people took the Saints in the face of a five game home losing streak.

    No Collapse This Time

    Right out of the gate, Minnesota atoned for their sins in the previous game. Adrian got the ball early and often as the Vikings got both the win and ATS against the visiting Lions.

    LOL Texans

    Ryan Mallet got them close but the Texans still lost in Carolina by seven points. Chemistry problems galore and the new QB did not win. The roll of the dice by this coach did not pan out.

    Finally, the two time Super Bowl winning coach can thank his lucky stars on his past results. Tom and Eli were hosting the Falcons and went down 24-20. Coughlin must go but his championships prevent a mid season move. Look for a very long season for the Giants. Even the Redskins with the RGIII drama are above them in the standings.     NFL News : NFC East in Flux

    Broken left collarbone is the prognosis on why Tony Romo had to leave the game. 2-0 and riding high in the NFC East despite Dez Bryant’s return being downgraded to ten weeks. Cornerback Orlando Scandrick got derailed by a knee for the whole season. Other Cowboys are suspended for two more games but the Romo injury trumps them all. Probably this injury puts him on injured reserve ready to return list which keeps him out for eight weeks. However with the rest of the division floundering, this was suppose to be a cakewalk of a season to the NFC East crown. Alas this is one situation that the Cowboys did not create and we at HRWager feel for their loss as America’s Most Miserable 2-0 team awaits more medical tests.

    Ohio State was the Harbinger

    Buckeye nation saw a lot of miscues even from Urban in holding off Northern Illinois 20-13. That with the Nebraska comeback to overtime and we thought the damage would be limited to the Big Ten. Alas, Alabama went down to visiting Ole Miss and allowed over forty points in the process Over twenty point dogs were doing amazing things covering at will on Saturday. For those that thought the sunrise would disperse the carnage, they were wrong. New Orleans losing started the string of upsets and Survivor pool ejections. Baltimore soon followed. Jacksonville cae through as well as Washington. By the end, only a elect few like Green Bay and New England made it through.

    Our NFL prediction seek to counter Lady luck pulling a rabbit out of her hat for Week Two. With the Jets beating the Colts out right on Monday Night Football, the carnage of Week Two is over. Survivor pools are in disarray. Bankrolls have shrunk. This culmination of rapid fire big favorite losses is seen once every few years. This is the low spot on the bell curve. With this extreme action at an end, normalcy will start to return for football. So those with superior knowledge will now see a reassertion to their high expectation.

    NFL Predictions : Start with Surprises


    Oakland at Cleveland (-3.5) Both teams won with the Raiders getting by the Baltimore Ravens. Much of the credit for that win revolves around the fact that Flacco went airborne 45 times despite the Ravens running the ball well. With Josh usurping Johnny, the Browns will be a run first team. GO with the Browns minus the points in this one.
    Implosion Bowl : Bucs at Texans (-7.5). We had the write up all set and then Tampa was part of that magic act by winning in New Orleans. The quarterback controversy will not let up a Ryan Mallet is not a vertical threat. For a chic playoff pic pre season, this team can not defensive game plan to save their lives. Carolina ran wild over them. While Winston is still feeling himself in the league, the Tampa defense is all out in full force already. The total is 40 1/2 so expect this game to go on the under side.

    Finally we have fire against disfunction as the Bills go to Miami (-2.5). Even though the Pats go up big against the Bills, Buffalo has shown the resolve and fire to mount an almost impossible comeback. This was in stark contrast to the an with $60M reasons to listen. Difference in this one is the talent distribution is unequal in one position. Wide receivers by the boat load does this Wildcats team possess. An imbalance that the Missouri defense will not be able to contain all day long. This is why Kentucky is – 2 1/2 and should be your bet to cover.

With a bevy of skilled players, the key worries were thought to be on the defensive front. A collapse in San Diego followed by a route in Minnesota spoke differently. Now we have one of those last stand games and there opponent is the visiting Broncos (2-0). With Detroit getting +3, does a sense of desperation increase their chances to cover tonight?

    NFL Free Pick : Sunday Night Football

    Who is off in the combination that Calvin Johnson has twelve catches but has been targeted twenty two times? Matthew got clobbered in the middle of the Charger game and has not really looked the same. Now is not the time to try to achieve the balance sought in the offense. Sacrificing everything to not go down to 0-3 means that Calvin must be your focus. Forget getting Ameer his touches to develop a player. The season is at risk here.

    Running Game

    For Denver and the dying arm of Peyton, getting the running game going is paramount for the development of this 2-0 team into a deep playoff run. The center of the line will be the point of contention here. Detroit gave up a boatload of yards to the Vikings last week on the ground. If center Matt Pradis can hold his own against Detroit’s Ngata then the Broncos will have real success trying to get an anemic rushing attack off of the ground.

    Game plan should be clear to Denver and they have ten days to prepare it. Detroit is going to air it out. Denver does not want to give anyone the impression they can be thrown on by letting the Lions pass roughshod over their secondary. This is essentially a make or break game for the confidence of the current coaching staff in Matthew Stafford. If they cant win here with him shouldering the load then you look to the future in the running game. Stafford responds and you should invest in the Lions cover at +3 points.     Our college football free pick goes back to a grudge game this Saturday. TCU put up an ungodly number of points against Texas Tech last year. Alas this lambasting did not do enough to sway the voters and now the Horned Frogs (3-0) have to deal with the fallout. Texas Tech (3-0) is much improved and get to host a damaged TCU squad at 3:45PM. The line is in the – 6 1/2 point region for the visitors. Which way will HRWager recommend for this one?

While that was going on, their defense was using Matthew Stafford as a pinata. Linesmakers took all of this into consideration in bestowing the home team as a -2 point favorite. Which side should one invest in for this Sunday Afternoon game?

    NFL Week 3 Free Pick : Adrian Rules the Roost

    Facets of history all have Adrian Peterson on the uptick for this one. He had in the first quarter more carries and yards than he did the entire first game. The coaching staff remembered that he can carry this team as Bridgewater fine tunes his game. From a historical perspective, the last time he played against the Chargers, Adrian went off for three touchdowns and close to three hundred yards. Currently San Diego ranks 27th in yards per rush allowed. Just what the Vikings need to bolster their chances to win in this one.

    Phillip Rivers is playing within himself. How else can one explain an over 80 percent completion percentage with almost ten yards per attempt? This has allowed their rookie, Melvin Gordon, to get his traction last week. While the Bengals were looking to stop the aerial assault, Gordon got almost one hundred yards. Look for more of the same type of production on Sunday.

    People are bringing up the point of a Norv Turner Factor. He was the Bolts coach that had mixed success there. Now he leads the offensive fireworks for the Vikings. Will he go overboard with Bridgewater in an effort to show up San Diego? This should be one of the more predictable games out there. Give the ball to Adrian and win the game. However, the Vikings will overextend themselves and continue to try and highlight Bridgewater. Take the Chargers road upset here as an underdog.     Right off the bat, the discussion went to the defending national champions. Even with declaring a starter, the Ohio State Buckeyes receive too much credit from the line makers against second tier teams. Defense of their perfect record is enough to get them to the playoffs this year. Style points are in short supply as they lose ATS and have not covered since week one. Staying in the Big Ten, people are downgrading their 31-0 win against BYU. The Cougars were at the end of their rope while the Wolverines almost had two byes with the cupcakes they hosted. A perfect storm gives you that odd isolated point away from the usual bell curve results for that game.

    Utah Bestowed as the Favorite

    Two teams that really impressed late into the night were Utah and UCLA. Utah crippled the Oregon program by taking them to the woodshed, 62-20. The Bruins ripped Rich Rod and Arizona asunder with a 56-30 win. Out of the two, the Utes are judged to be stronger by virtue of their stellar defense. Cappers are still not convinced of how Bruin QB Josh Rosen will do against a quality defense. In a matter of a few hours, the landscape of this Power Five conference has transformed.

    Meanwhile, there was a separate thread on TCU’s miracle win against Texas Tech. It seems the Horned Frogs received the break their program did not receive last year. Vast concerns have to be in the minds of many in regards to the TCU defense. As it stands right now, Baylor would more than likely be favored to win their game later in the season.     Our Sunday Night Baseball Free Pick revolves around the potential of Jake Arrieta battening down the hatches against the Pirates. The league’s first twenty game winner this year has been good against the league but lights out against Pittsburgh. This is reflective on the ML as it comes in at a -190 range. With this as a Cy Young Award audition, how will Jake respond tonight for the Cubs?

    Plenty of Fuel in the Tank

    While some pitchers have bodies resembling a pudgy middle age father, Jake Arrieta has a fitness regime that will prove that he has plenty left in the tank nearing the end of the season. TRX and pilates gives him the strength and flexibility to ability to deal like he does all year long. With focus on his lats, he attributes his limberness to the second half success he is enjoying. The only real limitation you will see in this one compared to the upcoming playoff matchup is the amount of pitches. Unless a no hitter is in play, he will not go the distance. Look for an ideal number to be near ninety. So whatever price you think is fair for this game must be downgraded some because of his more limited amount of innings in this one.

    Irony

    This actually means a lot more for the Pirates tonight as they are in striking distance of the Cardinals. Make no mistake about the pace of play tonight. It should push the edge of the rules as the Pirates will be very deliberate against Jake. Besides wanting to get him deep in counts, look for them to make life difficult with being very aggressive on the base paths. AJ Burnett is on the mound for the Pirates and he has been very sly this year. His over 1.35 WHIP has not damaged his ERA of 3.15 much. With the defense showing up for him on a regular basis, the ML is a little too high on the Cubs this evening.

    It is laughable to consider the over seven runs in this one but this is exactly what we are doing. The Pirates do not want to go down meekly against the Cubs. With his limited innings, this has all the signs of an over. AJ will not be able to work out of his jams as much against the Cubs as he does others.     Oakland at Chicago 1PM (-3 Raiders / 44 1/2)


    They can beat the bad teams and get battered by the good ones. This is the state of football in Oakland and it is a marked improvement over where they have been. They have star power in Derek Carr, Amari Cooper, and Khalili Mack. This gives them an offense in the top five in the league.
    Chicago has tanked in the team categories this year. 32nd in points allowed with an awful 31st in points scored has them looking for new pieces already. Clausen could not infuse life in this offense.

    Disregard the potential of a trap game. Chicago might not get into the win column until they face Detroit. Easy pickings for a team that is clearly on the upswing. Can the Raiders take the west? No but until they get to that level, they will feast on those that are in the lower half of the league. Raiders minus three as the road favorite is still a good wager to unload on.

    Sunday afternoon has a savory course to our banquet of NFL betting. 1-2 Kansas City comes calling to Cincinnati. The Chiefs pride themselves on a potent defense but have not faced the vertical aspect tht Dalton has been dealing out this year. With a point spread hovering around -3 1/2 for the home team, can the Bengals cover for our cash of the day for 10/4?

    Third Downs are the Key

    Third down prowess will have a lot to do in determining the winner in this one. For all the post season criticism that Dalton endures, he comes through in the regular season clutch. On third downs, his passer rating is a gaudy 123.5. The offense gets him in good spots and he certainly takes advantage of it. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Kansas City can not sustain drives this season. Even with their power running game, Alex Smith does not have the respect of the defense to throw down the field. Without this vertical aspect, they are down to a 16.7 percent conversion rate. An NFL low on offense, this is one of the key reasons the Chiefs are perceived as to be giving away games.

    Passing Free Roll

    One can stretch the defense while the other shrinks the field. Did you know that AJ Green has more yards (335) than all the Chief’s (333) wide receivers as a whole. Part of it has to do with the offensive lines and how much their QB’s hold the ball. KC has given up thirteen sacks this season while Dalton has been planted the same thirteen times but in ten games. All of this gives the Bengals a rank of second in the league on offense gaining 414 yards per game. Only New England is better.

    Had this been in Kansas City then the game could have been slowed to a crawl. Alas Ohio is our venue and the line of -3 1/2 is not even close in this one. KC has little in a type of scrambling offense. They get down and they stay down. The Bengals can fling it to all corners of the Earth. Easiest game on the 1PM board. Take the Bengals for your profit this Sunday afternoon.
