  1. santa anita R7 $2 WIN 1 santa anita R8 $2 WIN 1 thanks for the contest kinger!
  2. rich, poor, white, black, alcohol and drug addiction hits all groups. ;like you said, there are quite a few lawyers, bankers, accountants, executives that are functional drunks or functional addicts. and mike75 made a good point about boredom, that has been a trigger for me too. sitting around, my shoulder hurts so i throw on a couple fentanyl patches and while i wait for those to kick in might as well take some vicodin or muscle relaxers i have sitting around and a glass of scotch won't hurt while i wait for that to kick in...
  3. hang in there mike, nobody is close to perfect and don't beat yourself up over the setback. must be something about guys named mike, mike means "god like" but it seems like many of us have our demons.
  4. i'd recommend going to a detox facility and seeing how sick people are in the process... there is a physical illness involved in trying to stop alcohol or drug abuse.
  5. good points. my only counter is that we really don't know what his teammates and coaches are thinking, just what they say publicly which might just be pr... some reports in the past have said that they were frustrated with his antics
  6. yes but how many other guys are dunking in pre-game warmups for a game they aren't playing in? 6 months before they are playing again? to me that's showing off and rubbing everyone's face in it... one of those things about d-rose that has always rubbed me the wrong way, i understand how you feel differently and nothing will probably change your mind. unless your sister was his fiancee when he was sleeping around, that might've changed your mind. or if your brother was the guy that didn't get the last scholarship to memphis because he cheated his way in. or if your cousin could've had that roster spot that d-rose was taking up all year when he knew he wasn't gonna play.
  7. this isn't showing off? why was he allowed to do highlight reel dunks before games and then sit out another 6 months. [video=youtube;g_IHwW1zNq8]
  8. even with booze, i have found out the hard way a couple times that it's a lot different once you are sober... the tolerance is no longer there and the same amount of booze/day that kept me going in the past could easily mean death or serious illness now.
  9. aw shucks i usually wear pretty flashy shoes, or all black ...it's amazing how many comments i get on my shoes. most of the blacks ask where i got them, and the more boring people say "turn down the brightness on those" ... now i have to come up with a shoe design! careful what you wish for, they would probably look like these lebrons
  10. i meant whether we agree that they "should" be role models, they end up being role models just by kids looking up to them, having their poster on the wall, interactions with them, etc. believe it or not, kids sometimes don't listen to their parents, and they sometimes follow trends/athletes/celebrities that they think are cool. my son is never gonna wear a pair of milwaukee mike sneakers, but he will wear jordans or lebrons, and i'm fine with that.
  11. this is exactly what i mean about condescending you are biased towards d-rose because you like him, nothing wrong with that. but no reason to act like a snob towards anyone that disagrees... we can have a discussion where we agree to disagree. like on that last point, it IS PART OF THE JOB to be a role model, comes with the territory whether you agree with it or not. when my son plays little league with the brewers once a year, or when he got the thrill of a lifetime and played the nba video game against the greek freak giannis, do you think they had a duty to be good citizens? or didn't it matter? i was with my son when giannis hit a couple late 3's to win the video game (playing as himself), my son said "i didn't know you could make 3's"... giannis started laughing and gave a great impression. he could've just as easily taken it the wrong way.
  12. i know that was sarcastic but it might be true, he and chris douglas-roberts sure choked away the national championship game by missing all those late free throws
  13. just to play devil's advocate... when rose finally came back he only played 10 games in the season and had his lowest ever fg%/steals/turnovers/rebounds/ppg, so his mental/physical state was career worst in every category 4 seasons he has now played a total of 95 games and made $120 million between salary and endorsements... over a million per game, not bad! 14. my favorite teams are the ones i have won money betting on lately the rest of it is all just silliness... maybe 50 years ago when the packers all had ties to the community, now teams are made up of coaches that move around, and players that move around. so you're pretty much rooting for a logo and the right to say "we won" when a bunch of guys you'll never meet throw a ball slightly better than a bunch of other guys you'll never meet.
  15. cheating is ok because others are doing it too cheating is ok if you think the rules are stupid or unfair great lessons to teach my kids, i'll have to write those down
  16. i'm not upset and i'm not angry... seems like the nut huggers are the ones getting mad, jeez people wouldn't defend their mother with this kind of vigor yet they'll defend a scumbag that wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire
  17. the d-rose apologists remind me of the lance armstrong apologists... let's see how his actions make him a good guy cheated on his sat's broke every rule in the book in college, having his brother fly with the team and having others do his homework/take tests cheated on his fiancee with a stripper refused to play when medically cleared and his team needed him but yeah he must be a good guy because it doesn't seem like he killed anyone, and he must try so hard and care so much because he hasn't gotten fat and i saw him cry in an interview
  18. he didn't even put forth the effort to play in the playoffs when he was good enough to do highlight reel dunks in practice of course he wants to win a championship... but not enough to play when he's hurt. nba rule used to be "if you can walk you can play"... instead with d-rose it was always "i'm gonna sit out/have this surgery and come back even stronger next year!" yeah right
  19. yeah because those board meetings and watching his kids graduate (fat chance of that unless they cheat like him) are more important than trying to win a championship
  20. Wisconsin down 11 as I type They better come back or this could get ugly
  21. totally hilarious tgf currently better than all other forums combined
