Arrests for larceny of tip jar from restaurant
HARWICH - On Tuesday, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Harwich Police Detective Bob Brackett was conducting surveillance for suspected narcotics activity in a parking lot in the East Harwich Shopping Plaza located at the intersection of Route 137 and Route 39, when he reportedly noticed a suspicious vehicle that had been parked in the parking lot for an extended period of time. This vehicle was occupied by two male subjects. This vehicle remained parked in the parking lot for another hour and a half without either occupant exiting the vehicle. Detective Brackett then observed one of the occupants of the vehicle enter the Szechuan Delight restaurant which is located in the shopping plaza. Shortly after, this same subject came running out of the restaurant and entered the vehicle. The vehicle then sped away from the restaurant as employees came running out of the restaurant after the subject. The Harwich Police Department then got a report from the Szechuan Delight that they had been robbed. Detective Brackett followed the vehicle while waiting for marked patrol units to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The vehicle continued into Brewster where Harwich and Brewster Police were able to stop the vehicle. Officers were able to recover a tip jar that had been stolen along with $81.65. The operator of the motor vehicle was identified as 28-year-old Brian Laverty
