1) the basketball was in its downward flight 2) the ball had a possibility of entering the basket it is some peoples opinion that the ball had "no chance" of going in…but it is impossible to know that. The ball could have bounced off the rim a funny way and gone in. Funky and weird bounces happen all the time. We will never know because the SMU defender illegally goal tended the ball which was CORRECTLY called by the refs.
