(Reuters) - Former Tennessee Titans’ kicker Rob Bironas died late Saturday in a single-vehicle car crash in Nashville, police said on Sunday.

Bironas, 36, lost control of the SUV he was driving at a high rate of speed around a curve in the road, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a statement. The vehicle veered off the right side of the road, struck a line of trees and stopped upside down in a large culvert, police said.

Bironas was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The accident happened just after 11 p.m. CT (0400 GMT) less than a mile from Bironas’ home, where police believe he was headed. No evidence of drugs or alcohol was found, police said.

Fox’s Terry Bradshaw isn’t on the network’s Sunday NFL coverage after a car crash claimed the life of his son-in-law, former Tennessee Titans kicker Rob Bironas.

The 36-year-old Bironas, who spent nine years with the Titans, lost control of the SUV he was driving and hit several trees before coming to rest upside down in a drainage ditch. There was no evidence that alcohol was involved in the crash, according to Nashville Metro police.

The former kicker married Rachel Bradshaw in June.

“Terry will not appear on today’s edition of FOX NFL SUNDAY,†Fox’s vice president of communications Dan Bell wrote in a statement to FTW. “He flew to Nashville early this morning to be with his daughter Rachel during this tremendously difficult time. The entire FOX Sports family has Terry, Rachel, the Bironas and Bradshaw families in our thoughts and prayers.

Bradshaw’s colleagues addressed his absence during the network’s pregame show.

“Heartbreaking day,†Howie Long said. “Terry was very emotional when he left this morning to go back home. Thoughts and prayers obviously go out to the Bironas family and to you, Rachel. We love you and we’re thinking about you.â€

In February, Bradshaw missed Fox’s coverage of this year’s Super Bowl after his 86-year-old father, Bill, died the Thursday before the game.

RIP, Wish we would've kept you Rob. i was all over twitter after Tennessee let Rob go asking why they made such a dumb mistake. Rob was the 4th most accurate kicker in NFL history and holds the record for most field goals in one game with eight made. Rob made 25 out of 29 last year with a long of 55 yards last year and Tennessee cut him. Meanwhile Succop the fuck up formerly of KC missed two 40 yard field goals today for Tennessee.

WOW!! Why in the hell would they cut a kicker like that? Anything else to the story? I don't get it.
