Akron stopped the OU rushing attack, they have a couple transfers on the Dline, but OU was very disappointed they couldn't do what Tennessee did, and just hand off their way to week 2. Orlando Brown on the blind side, in Neyland, is absolutely ridiculous -- holds, false starts, and a dead QB are likely on the docket. Tennessee was blessed by the disbanding of the UAB program; the loss created an opening in the Vols schedule, one they filled with BG, and unlike playing UAB, Tennessee can take something from what BG does bc it's a lot of what the "air raid" is supposed to be about.

Martin should be ready to contribute on the outside, Todd Kelly back in for Berry is an incredible gain for the secondary, the immensely gifted Kirkland will be in the middle over the walk on, Maggitt will have his hand back in the dirt rather than trying to make sure everyone is lined up correctly for portions of the game, and the secondary adjustments will be made by the secondary coach...thank god. Todd Kelly Jr returning to the starting lineup is the biggest factor. If Martin is ready to get 35 snaps it would be a bonus.

Update on the most talented corner and DT on the Vols roster. He starts with Martin, a CB with round 1 talent who was supposed to start but got banged up a bit.

“We’ll see how much the knee can handle. But not only the physical repetitions, but the mental repetitions. How can he handle now a little more volume of special teams? How can he handle the volume defensively, just from a mental perspective — let alone a physical standpoint, as well?

“We’ll increase his repetitions, and we’ll see how that goes throughout the course of the week of practice.”

Jones said McKenzie, a former five-star prospect from Concord, Calif., is “working his way back into the rotation” after recently being limited by his injury.

“Kahlil’s working his way back into the rotation, and him missing about a week to a week and a half really set his development back, just in terms of football stamina, technique,” Jones said.

“And he’s a youngster. Again, he has no baseline. He has no baseline level of performance. He’s working to that. Kahlil is a very, very hard worker. It’s important to him, and just like we talked about Justin Martin, his reps will increase, also, in practice this week, and we’ll see how much of the volume of the defense he can handle from a physical standpoint, from a mental standpoint.
