WVU
I used to own a floor covering store. My remnants (mill ends) were marked up about 300%. Area rugs were marked up 400%. Regular order sales only had 40% markup as the competition was fierce. I found myself pushing mostly my own stock. At any given time I had about 50 full rolls of carpet (12 feet x 100 feet) in stock as well as 10-12 rolls of vinyl flooring. The only retail business with a higher markup than flooring is furniture. Big Bear
i have a friend who sales flooring but he says he has to work every saturday and sunday. There is absolutely no way i could work saturday and sundays bc that would interfere with my football betting/watching and i would hate life even more. In Western Maryland (Hicktown USA) they don't know any better. All I know was I had to find them carpet to match their new furniture. WVU
even with the high markups furniture stores operate at 1.5-2% profit margins (among the highest) from the few articles I read. High markups, yet high costs eat into the profits yeah no doubt tough way to make an easy living... like restaurants, people think they are making a lot of money but in most cases the owners would be better off working for minimum wage at mcdonald's i do know the owners of colder's furniture stores here in milwaukee, they do pretty well but i have no idea how. places are like a ghost town when i go in

The Dark Man
can't imagine gambling as a full time job. seems like a great way to ruin a fun hobby. I have never seen anyone go fom hobbyist to making a living. I have seen a few learn the profession as an apprentice or by the tuition of degeneracy. Most that make the claim live from day to day. greenhippo
I couldn't even imagine doing this for a living. Although the first few months or even a year might be exciting, you'd be living week to week without hitting a windfall and who the hell wants to put in 50 hours of research only to come out behind in any given week? Fuck that.
