maron
Three Teen girls steal a car. Not the first time for these "ladies' to run afoul of the law... Arrested a combined seven times including previous grand theft auto so they are in a police chase, miss a turn, and land in a cemetary swamp.... first sheriff's office said they got out, went in, and instantly sank.... now it comes out that they debated in the car whether it was safe to rescue them and they came to the conclusion that it was not safe to do so.... Now to what degree do civil servants like police officers are required to put their lives on their lines rescuing criminals who put themselves in that swamp

The Dark Man
If the police department themselves thought their effort was sufficient then they would not have fabricated a lie. They've already answered your question.
Sharp Square
They put themselves in that position so they suffer the consequences of their actions, they grown they knew what they were doing and that it could and would be dangerous. WVU
Every cop on the scene will have to live knowing that maybe they could have done more to save these teens. I'm sure some of them feel really awful about it.

mikeman
Considering they were known thieves I would say the cops are under no obligation to put themselves at risk.
trytrytry
you dont just jump in. there are procedures for a water safety recovery that maximizes the chances of safety for the rescuers and those in harm. They should have started those procedures and actions right away. But no you dont go against training and just wing it diving into water in the middle of the night. plommer
Anybody think the fact the thieves were black had an impact? Are you saying it was a decision based on economics? Saving the county/state from having to support 3 less potential welfare moms (with tons of kids by different baby daddies)?

BarryRunSome
What? Jump in so they can die also? They did nothing wrong. Local cops. They're obv familiar with this area they drive into. I'm sure if they thought they could safely rescue them, they would have.
