Will Hill says I'm wrong - NHL playoffs have shootouts - says take our money

I sent William Hill an email regarding the prop bets on shootouts in NHL playoff games.

They keep offering a bet that is a lock. This is truly a lock.

Will there be a shootout: NO -2000

Playoff games go to sudden death overtime, NEVER  a shootout.

Have a look at the email I sent and there response:

Hello Plommer

Thank you for your email and I apologise for the delayed response.

As I have checked the NHL rules ( https://www.nhl.com/news/board-of-governors-approves-2015-16-rules-changes/c-771976):

4. If the game remains tied at the end of the five (5) minute overtime period, the teams will proceed to a three-round shootout. After each team has taken three shots, if the score remains tied, the shootout will proceed to a "sudden death" format.

It seems that this change was only made in the 2015-2016 season which is the current season. Board of Governors approves 2015-16 rules changes by NHL Public Relations / NHL.com.

That is the reason why we have markets for NHL playoff hockey asking if there will be a shootout or not.

If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to email us. Alternatively, you may contact us through our Live Chat facility and we would be more than happy to discuss any issues or concerns that you have with our products and services.

With regards,

Angelica

William Hill:

I have noticed that you are offering wagers on ice hockey - specifically NHL playoff hockey in error.

NHL playoff hockey NEVER has a shootout. If the game is tied after 60 minutes then they play 20 minute periods of "sudden death" overtime.

They will play until there is a goal scored, THERE IS NO POSSIBILITY OF A SHOOTOUT in NHL playoff hockey games.

William Hill is offering bets that cannot win ie "WILL THERE BE A SHOOTOUT - YES +800"

While also offering bets that cannot lose ie "WILL THERE BE A SHOOTOUT -NO -2000"

I'm including a screenshot of an example of this on todays playoff match between the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning

How was this allowed to happen? Are your traders unaware of the rules?

Sincerely
plommer

it's not ideal to point the errors out on the forums

I disagree completely.

Betting a bad line will often not end well for the player. So there is nothing wrong with posting a books mistake in the forum.

I didn't point out the error so people could bet it, I would advise anyone thinking of doing so not to bet it.

I posted initially because I found it incredible that a book the size of WH could make such a colossal error and even after being given a heads up they maintain their position. Kind of arrogant really.

Why not bet it Ploommer? They can't keep the money, might not pay the bet but this ain't 1950 there is a gambling commission

The reason I won't bet it is because I don't want to face repercussions later.

I want to keep using Will Hill.

They are a good book for me - I play poker there on the ipoker network, I bet US/Canadian horse racing with them and use them for live sports wagering.

Plus I'm not really tempted at -2000.

Now if they fucked up at +2000 I would struggle with my willpower not to bet and hit and run.

Teddy imagine you own/manage a grocery store.

And you have a customer that every day comes into the store and just walks around with a cart looking for things that have been priced wrong. Most days they find nothing and just leave.

but on the days where they find one of your stock boys have made an error and priced the Tuna 10 for $1 rather than 2 for $1, they fill up their cart and call all their buddies to come do the same.

We both know that errors will ALWAYS happen, no matter the quality of people we hire and the amount of time we spend telling them to be 100% perfect, they never will.

So as the MGR do you ask the customer to not shop there any longer?

The fact that you still have an account with reasonable limits is that YOU are good to them and not the other way around.

I don't bet big at WH.

My limits are huge but I don't think I've made a bet for more than $250 with them in years.

Most of my bets are under $100. Probably averaging $40-$50.

I bet small and try and grind a few bucks here and there to win money in the sportsbook to pay for my poker tourney entry fees.

I'm strictly recreational. Not a bigtime winner or bigtime loser.

Will Hill is a great out to have. I'm a huge fan.

My book once had a line on Olympic woman's hockey still up after the game was over....I bet the max allowed $500 and got paid, was a thread about it live at eog as I watched the game and continued to hit refresh....

Big deal, got Vinny for $500 and he's still up long term. I'd do it every time

I understand your reasoning and agree if you want to keep using WH. I used to point out their line errors but it never made any difference. E-mail/live chat CS reps had no clue. They would eventually move the lines after they got limit bet a couple of times.

If this prop was offered at 5dimes i would not bet it because the likelihood of confiscation is high.

WH is a different animal for me though. They will likely limit or close my account anyway but chance of confiscation is low. So i will bet it along with the rest of my slate.

And what constitutes a bad line is a gray area. Is it the trader's fault for not knowing the rules or the player's for betting it? What if someone bet +800? Do they refund the money in that case for all past bets?

If a game is -2/2 -105 at pinnacle but WH has -5/+5 -110 is it a line error if you only bet the +5? What about those that take -5?

it's the same as it always was you vs the books vs other players which is why stuff rarely get posted anymore
