So Phil Ivey lost his baccarat case.

I don't think so, unless I misread it. Certainly possible I'm wrong, and if that's the case then it's cheating.

The way I read it though was the Casino was using bad cards. In baccarat you can arrange the cards as you please - that's within the rules - so the bad deck was exploited that way.

That's exactly what happened and no you can't even touch the baccarat cards. This wasn't even close to a "tell" as you put it. This was cheating with the help of staff whether they knew it or not

For Spankie and Brick who seem to think nothing is stealing.....

If I'm having a garage sale with everything spread out on my driveway but leave my garage open and then go inside to take a piss and leave my 10yr old nephew outside to watch things and somebody goes in my garage and grabs my new golf clubs and surfboard and ask my nephew how much and he gets them for $10 bucks and leaves before I come back...

Is that stealing?

If you're dumb enough to leave a 10-year-old in charge...

Yup. Fuck that casino.

a casino isn't just a pile of raw materials

it's stockholders/bondholders/employees... all of whom ivey stole from

what if he stole $100 million and the casino had to close, laying everyone off?  where does the line get drawn

this is an interesting case, a lot of smart people on each side of the argument

:cheers

I'm not arguing whether it's stealing or not. The casino knew what was going on, they accomdated all his requests and let him continue to play. They were clearly freerolling him.

in the hopes that they could take him to court, waste a ton of time and money on legal fees, and then hope that he gave the $10 million back?  that doesn't make any sense

i think the casino employees/management were too ignorant on edge sorting to realize that they could tell what the cards were

You can touch the cards after you've bet. What should have not happened is pulling the cards out of the shoe prior to the bet being placed. I dont think they supplied their own cards but rather they knew the cards were manufactured by a particular company and they knew of the flaws. their requests should not have been granted but also doesnt make them cheaters.

Got to go find the whole write up on this. There must have been a lot of table searching and practicing behind the scenes to get good at it.

I would like to give all parties involved truth serum and find out if both sides were crooked.

But, Ivey must be the greediest pig in the world. Have to find out what the buy in was? Why couldn't he win a million - lose a little back - if the dealer turns the shoe the wrong way - stop playing - change the cards - change the dealer - leave.

Wonder what he played per hand and how much he tipped the dealer?

Did he disclose the advantage he had by using rigged cards? I think this has to be considered. Casino has to assume cards are clean. If not, deal has to be void. Money returned to casino.

Who knows but that falls on the pit boss.  Did they inspect the cards?  I'm sure they did since he was playing for big money.

They fucked up, they dropped the ball..I fail to see how this is Ivey's problem?

They knew exactly what they were doing and the only reason they caught onto them is because they realized who the lady is. Shes banned at many casinos for exposing this flaw.
