KingRevolver
I hate the savings account because I always end up dipping into it. I want to put in $25 here, $50 there, etc. into an account that I can't fuckin' touch... even if my life depended on it! How can I accomplish this

Bfo
Obviously not going to work for you from what you said, but I put $50 into a cigar box every week, which I use for our beach vacation every year. Once you get used to the fact that it’s untouchable money it gets a lot easier. Been doing it for almost 25 years and don’t think I’ve ever touched it. You just have to have the mentality that once it’s in the box it’s done. I also cash in my change once a year before vacation and use it for one really nice dinner. Usually have $300-$400 so for me that’s top drawer.

mikeman
It's called discipline Kinger, if you dont have the discipline to put money away and not dip into it willy nilly, then dont even try. To answer your question directly, the best way to save money is not to spend money, a buck here, 2 bucks there, 10 bucks more, it adds up. That doesn't mean you live poor, it means you live smart, get a good deal, dont buy stuff you dont need, and dont blow money trying to impress. All my life i've heard people bitching about someone with money, saying stuff like "he's got all that money and he's still a cheap bastard". the obvious comment is "how do you think he got all that money"? Thrift is a lifestyle.
KingRevolver
I wish I could have the government send me money monthly like they send you money monthly. Must be easy to save!
GreenDoberman
Write down your goals on paper. Break down what you are saving the money for and then break down how much you will need to save by month, week, even day. Then write down a plan of how much you are going to save each period. For example I put money into an account and buy stock (no commissions) every day. I have a year-long breakdown of what stocks I am going to buy and a calendar each month that shows which stock I am going to buy that day. I also have a breakdown by day of the money goal and the money contributed. The more you write things down, the more the brain remembers them. Works the same as muscle memory working out. Lastly as others have said, you have to have the discipline to stick to the plan. Clearly you are lacking in discipline in other areas of your life (your diet) so if you can succeed in one then you can carry that over to another area. Must be easy to save!I told you what to do, I know you wont/cant do it, but you have your answer. Spend less, earn more, hopefully both. Do you have an IRA, if you dont you have no hope, none. I started putting into an IRA when i was 24.
joeybagadonuts
Get the mint app to track your spending , Ese. Once I realized where I was wasting money , made it easier to change habit. Though to be honest , it’s better to spend time worrying about how to make more money than trying to save based on what you’re making now. Even if you cut all your luxuries the amount you can save is pretty small. There’s no limit on how much extra money you’re capable of making if you come up with a good idea. August West
Saving $50 here or there isn't going to do shit. You gotta put away a good portion of your paycheck every week. do that for decades and you'll be all set. It's not that hard.

Bfo
Dude I put my spare cash in a Te-Amo cigar box. Just start slowly and toss a $20 in there every week . Good shot to exercise discipline and let it build.
