KingRevolver
I don't necessarily mean with money. I remember when I was a kid... POGS became a big thing for a couple of years. They were ten for a $1. You would use "slammers" during gameplay, but I found it fuckin' tedious. I wanted to add excitement to the game, so I convinced all the neighborhood kids (my age) to play poker and use the pogs as chips. Then I'd play High-Low card with younger kids because they didn't understand poker. I was a little shit so I'd do tricky deals and win a lot. I won so many chips that I started selling them back for twenty for $1, and then I'd turn around and win them back. I had a mini racket going... This was my first taste of "gambling" with peers. But I knew I had a penchant for this vice at a very young age. I was about 11 when I saw the movie The Wizard on VHS. There's a scene in there where they're in Reno and need to make some fast money... so they play Craps at a casino. I must've watched that scene about a hundred times. Loved it so much that I created my own little Craps board. Thing was a complete shit but it excited me. It was weird. Also, this other time... my father took me to the racetrack because they were going to show a Julio Cesar Chavez fight on their TVs. They also had racing going on that same night. I ran into a friend there so we hung out and watched the races while our parents got drunk and watched the fight. My friend's mom bet (very, very small) on a couple of horses and gave the tickets to my friend. Both tickets lost, but then I asked my father to buy me a couple, too. It excited the hell out of me. High School is when I finally started gambling for real money during the NFL season. I watched a re-run of Beverly Hills, 902010... when Brandon starts gambling with some bookie in school. That's when I first learned about spreads. I thought to myself, "Shit, I should do that..."

KingRevolver
Someone explain Pencil Wars to me. WTF is that?We used to play "pencils"... That's where your opponent holds their pencil horizontally with both of their hands, and you then use your pencil to try to break it. They then take their turn... Even the people I work with in their 20s had never heard of it. I taught them how to play recently

richsox24
I ran an NFL confidence pool for $5 an entry in high school. Got like 50 students in every week. One day in between classes while walking through the hallway, my history teacher Mr Hague literally grabbed by my ear and yanked me into a classroom. He asked to see what was in my book bag. When I showed him and he saw all the football picks sheets, I thought i was busted. But then he asked how much money to join. True story. Bimmercando
The same story as X Went to the horse track with my father on the occasional Sunday and he would buy me a show ticket on a horse I would pick afterwatching the warmup. Would also pick up tickets and even founda few tossed out winning tickets. Go figure. Then started going with a few buddies on our bikes ( sometimes went tohang out in the stable area with a few of the young trainers (harness)).All this complimented the poker/card games and the rest is history.
