The 2020 NFL Offseason To See Lots Of QB Movement

Fact: Last season the Bucs would've cliniched a playoff spot in the final two weeks with wins if Winston didn't go crazy throwing interceptions and creating turnovers. At least three or four losses are the fault of Winston alone.

The Bucs lost 5 games by six points or less. lost 3 games by four points or less.

They would've won their final six games but lost the last two by 3 and 6 points on Winston turnovers.

This year, it’s possible that more than half of the league could have a different starting quarterback than it had a year ago.

The 11 teams that had a different starting quarterback in 2019 than they had in 2018 were the Cardinals (Sam Bradford to Kyler Murray), Ravens (Joe Flacco to Lamar Jackson), Bills (Nathan Peterman to Josh Allen), Browns (Tyrod Taylor to Baker Mayfield), Broncos (Case Keenum to Flacco), Colts (Andrew Luck to Jacoby Brissett), Jaguars (Blake Bortles to Nick Foles), Dolphins (Ryan Tannehill to Ryan Fitzpatrick), Eagles (Foles to Carson Wentz), Buccaneers (Fitzpatrick to Jameis Winston) and Washington (Alex Smith to Keenum).

That sounds like a lot of turnover at the quarterback position, but it’s almost certain to be eclipsed by the amount of quarterback turnover we’ll see this year.

In 2020 there will be more changes as the Chargers are moving on from Rivers,Titans moving on from Mariota,Bengals moving on from Dalton AND possibly the Pats moving on from Brady,Raiders moving on from Carr,Panthers moving on from Brady and Bucs moving on from Winston.

It won't be long before Pittsburgh(Roethlisberger),New Orleans(Brees),New England(Brady) are looking for new blood as well.

Only Atlanta(Ryan),Green Bay(Rodgers),Seattle(Wilson),Detroit(Stafford) have QB that have played over ten years that are not close to retirement or changing locations.

Why Ryan Tannehill will continue to thrive in Tennessee for 2020 and beyond.....

In his first four seasons with the Miami Dolphins Ryan Tannehill threw for over 3,000 yards each of those seasons and threw for over 4,000 yards in two of those.

Tannehill became just the 3rd QB in NFL history after Peyton Manning and Joe Montana to have 15,000 passing yards over their first 4 seasons.

During a Week 7 2015 Miami victory over the Houston Texans, Tannehill posted a perfect 158.3 passer rating and set the all-time NFL record for consecutive completed passes with 25.

In 2016 Tannehill led the Dolphins to the playoffs and had top ten numbers in passer rating, completion percentage, yards per completion, etc.

While playing for Miami Tannehill was in the top ten yearly for most 4th quarter comebacks and game winning drives and in his career has 17 fourth quarter comebacks and 16 game winning drives.

When Tannehill left Miami he had over 20,000 yards passing along with 123 TD's thrown with a 63% completion percentage

Tannehill did as well as could be expected in Miami for a young starting QB that had to deal with 4 different offensive coordinators,an offensive line that was ranked one of the worst every year,a defense that was among the worst in points allowed nearly every season, etc.

Once he got to Tennessee and had a much better offensive line as well as weapons on offense and a better defense than any when he was in Miami of course he thrived and was able to play better.

As you can see in the passing stats below Tannehill was either at the top or near the top in almost every offensive category and even if he regresses some he will still be a good starter and top ten QB

In fact it wouldnt be a stretch to see Tannehill put up some good numbers and be a possible top ten QB as long as the Titans continue to protect him well

2019 Tannehill Stats...

QB Rating 117.5         rank 1st
4th qtr rating 123.3     rank 1st
Yards per play 6.9       rank 1st
TD per drive 34%        rank 2nd
Points a game 30.4     rank 3rd
Yards per game 406.2 rank 3rd
Completion % 70.3     rank 3rd
Longest pass 91 yds   rank 3rd

Tannehill didn't get to start until the 7th game of the year and went 7-3 in the 10 games he played.

He was ranked at the top or near the top in nearly all categories for QB including QB rating (1st),Yards per play (1st),Red Zone TD % (1st),TD per drive (2nd),Points per game (3rd),Yards per game (3rd) and Completion % (3rd).

Had he got to play all 16 games his stats would've been 34TD 9INT and 4000 Yards

His last season in Miami before getting hurt in 2016 he led the Dolphins to the postseason and was top ten in several categories that year but didnt play any in 2017 and some in 2018 because of injuries.

The thing is that Tannehill was already starting to improve and play well in Miami before injuries mounted then after leaving there and getting healthy in Tennessee in 2019 he picked up where he left off and did well in Tennessee.

So as long as he has decent offensive line protection and weapons he should keep playing well and even if he regresses some he will still be a top ten QB.

The fact is he played as well as you could hope for someone dealing with different coordinators every year, crappy line protection not to mention a defense that consistently gave up too many points.

I'll be shocked if Brady goes to Tenn.   He would be a large drop off from 2019 Tannehill.

Not really sure about the full picture of how things will look in the 2020 NFL Season coming up......

If i had to guess Carolina will be this years Miami and be dead last in standings.

As far as Tennessee goes i think if they bring back Tannehilll and Henry that we will pretty much win the division.

The reason i think the Titans win the division is because Jax will be weaker as they cut a lot of goood players,Houston dont have any high draft picks in the first couple rounds and Indy with Brissett are an 8-8 squad and even if they bring in a free agent QB like Rivers they'll be growing pains.

Amazing how any morsel of news shifts these.   Last week it was SF.   Now he's going to TB?    And NE is + Money?   Crazy.   Will still be shocked if he's not back in NE.

I'll be shocked if Brady goes to Tenn.   He would be a large drop off from 2019 Tannehill.

Agreed. A large drop indeed

There are 3 things in my opinion fueling this Brady to Tennessee possibility.....

1. Brady and HC Vrabel/GM Robinson had a possible nudge nudge wink wink handshake deal for Brady to come to Tennessee in 2020 BUT no one saw Tannehill being the best QB in the NFL besides Mahomes and leading Tennessee to within a game of the Super Bowl. When Tannehill exploded it put a big damper on Bradys plans)

2. Brady and Belichick are fighting and egos are out of control and so Brady wants to go to a team to teach Belichick he can win on his own and what better way to do it than to be with people he knows and are friends with not to mention the Titans are one of the best teams in the conference. After all in the last two years Tennessee has already beat Belichick twice.

3. Brady wanting to go somewhere with a decent offensive line along with weapons which Tennessee has plenty of

An above average offensive line that features LT Taylor Lewan, RT Jack Conklin,G Rodger Saffold,G Nate Davis,C BA

(Derrick Henry,RB who leads NFL in rushing and had more rushing yards after contact than any other RB as well as having more runs over 50 yards than any other RB over the last 3 years)

(RB2 Will be someone in the first few rounds of the draft Antonio Gibson of Memphis is one to keep eyes on)

(AJ Brown,WR1 a rookie who led all receivers in yards per catch gaining a monsterous 20 yards each time)

(Corey Davis,WR2 a very talented former first round pick who has 143 catches for 1867 yards,13 yards a catch over his past 3 years in Tennessee and will most likely be very good this season because he will be hitting free agency in 2021)

(Adam Humphries,WR3 dealt with injuries but still had 40 catches for 400 yards, 10 yards per catch. Brady actually wanted Humphries to come to New England last year but he chose Tennessee. Brady already familiar with him.)

(Jonnu Smith,TE Has shown he is capable of replacing Delanie Walker and is dangerous when he gets the ball and had 35 catches for 440 yards for a 13 yard average)

i'm curious about what he is going to get as well.

My guess is....

A 4 year deal worth 29 million a year/116 million total with guaranteed money around 56 million

I was close............

Tannehill deal with Titans is official

4 years, $118 million, $62 million guaranteed

Link to comment

1. $20 million signing bonus.

2. 2020 base salary: $17.5 million, fully guaranteed at signing.

3. 2021 base salary: $24.5 million, fully guaranteed at signing.

4. 2022 base salary: $29 million, guaranteed for injury at signing and fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the 2021 league year.

5. 2023 base salary: $27 million, non-guaranteed.

This is essentially a 2-year deal for $42 million, and if he plays well this season it will become a 3-year deal for $71 million. Titans GM Jon Robinson did really well on this deal and they are able to get out of the deal in 2 years. Win/Win deal for Tennessee
