The 30 acres were just what was left of it. It was much bigger in the good old days.

mikeman
That corn looks fine, it's gonna start drying up fairly soon, some of you non farmers may not know this but corn doesn't stay green until harvest, it turns completely yellow and basically dries up. Is sweet corn even 1% of total corn acreage planted? Plus sweet corn is not harvested, it's picked.

I saw a farmer with a stand selling it for $7 dozen, i thought that was high, it's 30-40 cents in the store(each)

mikeman
Imagine if you could get 50 cents/ear for an acre of corn? Lets say you avg 2 ears/stalk, that's $1 stalk and you can have what, maybe 20,000 stalks/ acre. You'd be filthy rich. of course they prob get 10 cents an ear when they sell to large outfits. Screw Andrews
Looks like it's about 1%....but I know 5 guys with 3 to 5 hundred acres that kill it every year...and yes harvest not picked...the small guys with a few acres seem to be the pickers...the guys I know just unload the small stuff to be processed....canned ect....
