Perfectly legal in UK as long as you don't wager on sports you are involved.

Are Footballers Allowed To Bet On Other Sports?

Despite the strict regulations around betting in football, players are typically allowed to bet on other sports. As long as these sports are not directly related to football, players can place bets without any repercussions.

This is because, unlike in football, players are unlikely to possess insider information about other sports that could influence betting outcomes. Additionally, their actions in other sports  are unlikely to have a direct impact on the results, making it less likely for them to engage in unethical behaviour.

However, it's important to note that while betting on other sports is generally allowed, footballers are still encouraged to bet responsibly and within their means.

So the story is this interpreter, who prob made a few hundred grand/yr, stole Ohtani's money to the tune of millions and lost it gambling? And he never noticed anything.

Oh boy.

So apparently ohtani pays for this guy to interpret for him but doesn't have a financial guy to handle things , who would have noticed this on day 2 perhaps? Obviously it's ohtanis money and he knew about it all along, I guess as long as he didn't bet on baseball its "ok".
