They have long term stats. Also some other academic types whose names I don't remember. I gave up on horses many years ago and got rid of my books.

 

You can find explanations on the internet of what they are doing. You should read the book. I think you will find their analysis interesting. It doesn't work very well. Probably because there are too many people trying it. Also he used the odds after the race was over. You have to bet 2-3 minutes before post and the final odds are different from the time you bet.

 

Get 2.20 as minimum payoff and bet odds-on to show. You will at most be betting at -1 or -2 percent loss.
