    Miami Seattle represents the toughest challenge for a road team and is the focus of HRWager’s NFL Free Pick for Sunday, September 11th. Great to see one and all here on the opening weekend here in the National Football League. For a team that has to visit Seattle once every eight years, is it prohibitive to their success to do so right away? With one of the two loudest stadiums in the league, could this be the spur that hobbles the Miami offense?     Miami Seattle : Dolphins Best Unit

    Oddly enough, the Dolphins have the best mismatch in this game. Their defensive front against a Seahawks offensive line with three starters no longer there. Combine that with another one having to shift over and only one piece of the foundation was where it was at last year. Disruptions all over the field have the Dolphins starting off fast. Make no mistake, first year coach for Miami will be pumped up for his debut so far from home.

     

    Steamroll

    However, there is a reason why this spread has moved three points. Situation is too tough to Miami to win outright. It is a battlezone up in Seattle. Dolphins decided to not only scratch a healthy #2 running back but they did not even take him on the trip. If Foster is not what the franchise hopes for then the onus is on Tannnehill. Red zone is where he suffers. Look for this to be a battle of field position where Seattle will have the edge for most of the game.

    Equate all of this together and the bet is a simple one. First half Miami Dolphins + 6 1/2. Pressure to get off to a good start has this mentally weak team going hard for a half.     Brand name bias is keeping this line afloat. NE fans are known to bet against the odds the few times their team is an underdog. Part of keeping the line at -7 is because of this. However, do not fall into this trap. Arizona is one of the few franchises that are better on both sides of the ball then the Pats when New England is fully healthy. Astros are almost facing a double digit deficit in the AL West but are still in the mix for an AL Wild Card spot. Meanwhile, the Cubs are on cruise control. They are now making the moves to rest players while trying to peak at the right time in the post season. Two stellar pitchers are on the mound, so why is the line moving against the Cubs for this ESPN broadcast tonight?

    Chicago Houston : Arrieta Oddity

    Momentum has been off and on for Jake Arrieta in his last there games. Look at his stats and ponder on this.

    3.54 ERA

    He has been bad by his standards at home which were his last two starts. Pirates he let in more runs than he allowed hits. Earlier in this window, he walked seven Brewers in the middle of August. He has lost traction in the CY Young race by these starts. While he gets a lot of benefit of the doubt, the oddsmakers did not really take this into account when they opened the Cubs ML at -168.

    Down to -140 Cubs ML

    Part of the reason for the dip is the odd production from Arrieta. The other is that the Astros are playing for their lives and have Fiers on the mound. His WHIP in his last three is at 1.59 but ERA is lower than Arrieta’s in that stretch. This knack of getting out of jams continues for the Astros. Combine that with the stated tone of urgency in the locker room knowing that they have to continue to win has caused the over night sharps to buy heavy into the Astros tonight.

A few teams have been very stable in the 2016 season but they have proven to be the exception. FSU, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, and Louisville are just some of the schools that more than just held serve in their opening wins. What schools thrilled but ultimately have been let downs wagering wise? Let us examine what transpired Saturday here at HRWager.

    NCAAF News : Big 12 is a Dud

    When all three of your top flight teams take a tumble then the chances of your Power Five conference making it into the playoffs takes a drastic hit. Oklahoma last week and now two odd finishes to contemplate. Oklahoma State lost a close game to Central Michigan on a Hail Mary that could have been prevented. Arkansas and TCU was a barnburner. Entertainment value it was superb but a game that TCU could not afford to lose but it did. Look at the highlight reel from CampusInsider for the mayhem that ensued.



    Clemson Has Problems

    #2 team in the land should be hopped over by Florida State in the latest polls due to come out. Their rushing attack is averaging almost 100 yards less a game this year despite playing Auburn and Troy. DeShaun Watson is getting little help with all of the drops his receiving corps is providing him. If it was not for his scrambling and rusing ability, Clemson would have lost one of its first two games. 30-24 against Troy with the talent that the Tigers have is unforgivable.

    What about the positive? Alabama keeps cashing wagers no mater what the point spread is. LSU has probably found a decent quarterback option for the rest of the season. Washington’s Jake Browning is superb at QB for them. If their pass rush progresses like it has on Saturday against Idaho then your Huskies are the favorites to win the Pac 12. Let them run by you and maybe they will tire out is all that can be said in their 30th rated pass defense last year. Not only does Cousins complete at a high percentage just under 70 percent, his receiving corps has young options that have jailbreak ability. Can not see any scenario in which this team is out of it the entire night. If they fall behind early, live wagering on the Skins should be a good money maker for those that like fly by your seat wagering. We have liked Kirk Cousins in this situation for Washington since the early preseason action.

    Josh Norman Debut for Washington

    Steelers better get their running game going as the new look Redskins secondary has Josh Norman now as their anchor. While not the very best in the game, he can shut down almost anything thrown his way. Big Ben is a proven commodity but Ladarius Green being out at tight end will be more of a factor than people will realize. The sky high total opening at 50 has migrated slightly south to 49 1/2 here.

    Washington can play just enough defense to slow down the Steelers. Kirk Cousins is ready to take that next step forward in the QB elite of the league. Redskins are + 2 1/2 point underdogs. This has gotten them tied with the Tigers for the team just out of the Wild Card. Now they get the Dodgers and Red Sox as their reward. Bryan Mitchell has finally recovered from a toe injury that cost him almost his entire season. He pitched well against Toronto but does not have fearsome strikeout ability. Can his knack for just getting players out work against the Dodgers here?

    Both teams are hot. Dodgers have a precarious three game lead in the NL West. They also sport the better of the two pitchers in terms of upside here. Over achieving Yankees saw their momentum take a dip and here it will fall off the cliff. Dodgers ML is near -130 and the – 1 1/2 runline is at +125.     Playing Cleveland can make anyone look like a Super Bowl Champion. RGIII is already on injured reserve with a shoulder problem so whoever plays the Browns in the immediate future will be blessed. Too bad Carson Wentz can not play them every week. His numbers were astounding considering all that he had working against him.

    Great comeback by the Colts from 21-3 down that fell short. Totals on the Colts in pass friendly atmospheres should be on the over. Here is where the next week can not help the defensive woes on Indy. 44 1/2 has been nudged to 45 because they have to travel to Denver for the 4PM game. About the only environment where Andrew Luck cant go crazy in. Time of possession and ball control by the Broncos limit the attempts by the colts offense. Come crashing to Earth with team total under for the Colts.

    Early start on Wednesday for the Cubs Cardinals as this is the prototypical getaway game for many teams today. Middle of the workweek can not keep us down here at HRWager. Clinching the division is not in the cards for the Chicago Cubs on this road trip. Magic number is three for their last game on their trek. St. Louis will not see them clinch on their home field. What is more pivotal for our wagering purposes is that the Cards are just slightly out of the NL Wild Card as we speak. Which way is the path to profit for the 1:45PM game here at the HRW.

    Cubs Cardinals : Quality Starters

    Coming into the day here is the lay of the land when it comes to NL Wild Card Spots.


    Giants 77-67
    Mets 77-68
    Cardinals 76-68

    Half a game in hand in which to catch the Mets. Cubs being the -130 ML range has been the norm for this one. Starters for this one are Lester for the Cubs and Martinez for St. Louis. Both have been very good as of late. Let us look at the momentum and the wild totals swing for this game.

    Totals Up and Down

    Opened at 7 1/2, went down to seven, and then is hammered up to eight is the oddest movement we have seen in a while that did not involve a pitching change. Here we have Lester who in his last three games has been invincible with a 0.77 WHIP and an ERA at 0.41. His innings might be causing a concern at 176 but he is established and had over 200 last year. Still with the slightest trouble, we can project him only going five or so innings. Martinez has done a wonderful job keeping his ERA down in his last three despite eight walks. He is at 171 IP and can see him tiring out here.

    If you want to go Cubs then it is either full game runline or five inning money line. St. Louis is fighting for their lives but can not be taken in the five inning line.     College Football Predictions : Do or Die for Big 12

    Three weeks in and one can put a stake in the heart of an entire conference with a no show by Oklahoma this week. 7:30PM start on Saturday has the Buckeyes traveling to Norman. Sooner defense was horrid against Houston. Ohio State has a quality defense that could stifle the dynamics that Oklahoma brings to the table. Desperation is on the minds of the sharp bettors. Buckeyes -2 1/2 is down to -1 range. All comes down to Urban Meyer is an over achiever while Stoops finds ways to squander talent. Ohio State ML for us.

     

    Ole Miss : All for Nothing

    Florida State gifted Ole Miss 21 points in the second quarter and still the Seminoles won by double digits. Now this team goes into Alabama where the ire of the Crimson Tide is really high. Two straight upsets have Nick Saban in a non forgiving mood as a -9 is now at -10 1/2. Look at the HRWager SEC preview on this game for our impressions before the season. Bama fans will bet almost any number but there is little value in Ole Miss here. Pass or take Bama for the blowout are the recommendations for your sports portfolio here at the HRW.

    Big game to help determine the fate of the NL Wild Cards is the Cardinals Giants tonight at 10:15 PM. Great to be in the home stretch as NFL football is here also tonight at HRWager. Baseball is winding down so when we get two above average starters with plenty of reference stats for the entire season, we are going to hop on the train to profitville. Combine that with the Giants worst 20-35 record since the All-Star break and it was amazing to see the ML on this one! Where did it open and which side has the best value for this key game on Thursday, September 15th at HRWager?

    Cardinals Giants : Both Starters

    Middle of the road in their last three starts are both Wainwright and Cueto. If anything, Adam of St. Louis has been performing a tad bit better in terms of better WHIP to ERA considerations. Note is that this is thin. Combine that with Saint Louis having a mysterious 43-28 record on the road gives one pause to ponder the line. Oddsmakers set the price at the -150 level on the Giants as a home favorite. Sharps have not budged this line an inch in the game.

     

    Lackey Effect : CY Young Award Winner?!

    So what does a Chiacgo Cub have to do with our pick? Lackey absolutely owned the Cardinals in the day getaway game in St. Louis. This is the result of his wonderful form going in and that he is on a very short list to win the CY Young for the National League. Pit that against the Giants who got swept at home by the Padres. Not only that but the SF bats were silent. Used to be that the Giants could not come back from trailing in the 9th but now they can not even jump out in front at any time as of late.

    Cueto and his contract was brought in to stop situations like this from unraveling for the Giants. Wainwright has been his equal or tad bit better in the last three games.     College football Thursday roars in with Houston Cincinnati in a game pegged pretty close by the oddsmakers. Glad to see all here at HRWager once again as Week Three in NCAAF starts up. Cougar nation is riding high with their #6 ranking as they roll into Bearcats territory. The spread on this one has the high powered Houston machine as only a – 7 1/2 point favorite. What is the status of their stellar quarterback for this one? Let us find in this 7:30 PM start this evening on ESPN.

    Houston Cincinnati : Greg Ward

    QB for the Cougars is cleared to play. AAC conference action for Houston starts with this team. Ward has dynamics that can not be replaced on the field. An opening line of -7 has only inched to -7 1/2. Part of this is the history between these two teams as of late. Last three meetings have had combined winning margins totaling just 18 points. Even when Houston was rolling and hosted the game last year, they could only win 33-30. Bearcats have dominated this series until last year. This has given the sharps plenty of pause to pull the trigger in this one.

     

    Bearcats Keep it Close?

    Decent win against Purdue has Cincinnati (2-0) performing well. Short weeks tend to be great equalizers for home teams and those that are underdogs. One cause for concern in this one is Hayden Moore. He played well for him and got 250 yards and two touchdowns. Alas, his completion rate clipped in at 19 for 32. In the face of all the exotic and aggressive blitz packages that Houston can throw at them, will the lack of safe reliable passes be the Bearcats undoing?

    So many trends one has to go against taking Houston – 7 1/2 but it is the right play. Best defense that can just pin their ears back is the Cougar unit. Little effort was given in their layup win. This is their special season where they are trying to break the Power Five hold on the college football playoff. They need a double digit win here and they will get it. Burn the fuel now and worry about it later is the attitude in Houston. Take Cougars – 7 1/2 in this one.     As you can tell, we are big fans of established starters and their momentum or lack of it in their last three games. Kluber of Cleveland has been getting it done in style in almost every regard in his last three games. 30 strikeouts is something that one must take a moment to digest. This rate is happening when he is getting near 200 IP for the year. A WHIP of 0.95 is downright nasty considering he has seven walks in that time frame. ERA of 2.86 is a tad high for all this productivity. Hate to say it but a few less strikeouts would leave him with more fuel to elude the walks as of late.

     

    Fulmer has been Fading

    Fulmer has been a go to guy for the Tigers and a Rookie of the Year candidate for the AL. However, he has been running on fumes in his last four starts. Over 5 ERA is not what we like to see coming into such a key game. This is why the market is near -160 for the home team tonight. Can Cleveland be this strong despite just being 5-5 in their last ten?

    Even the total has been steady at 7 1/2 despite action both ways on the over and under. This seems to be right where the market thinks it should be. Sharps have not moved this much.     19-10 and Yet #10?!

    One of these two numbers does not mesh. Johnson has the speed and power that would be considered to be above average at this weight. Not world class ability but good enough to make a living. Here he is getting a lot of respect in that Poirier is only in the -150’s against him. The gulf is so much more. Michael has to ferret out how to make contact and yet not get to close. Clenching or on the ground and Poirier has a distinct advantage over him. So much so that a dry technical match is beyond him here.

Now they get a Brady less New England team that still upset Arizona in the desert. Which way is the path to profit in this one?

    Miami New England : Tired Already?

    Yes both teams are facing some hurdles. Dolphins open up with two straight road games having the first one on the opposite coast. Patriots were on the road near the same coast and on Monday night. Question is how much will Miami learn from the film in that game? First off, they should go with exotic zone packages. Arizona gave Garoppolo man coverage which is the easiest for an inexperienced signal caller to beat. Dolphins front four is one of the better units in football. With a win here, the Dolphins can make this division closer. However, the oddsmakers opened the Pats as a -5 1/2 favorite that has moved to -7 at times.

    Arian Foster is Needed Here

    For most of the offense to work well, Arian Foster has to have a big game. Face it, Miami has a game manager of a quarterback who will not win you games but should not lose them as well. We do not mind the under 200 yards through the air but it also came with a completion percentage near 55 percent. This is far too low for a workman offense that dinks and dunks. Get Ryan to near 65 percent and this offense will hum as well as it can.

    Market is +245 ML and + 6 1/2 on the road here. New England is mostly unbeatable at home. However, the status of Gronk is up in the air. Stay tuned to the wires. However, Aaron Rogers is in above average form now that Jordy Nelson is back catching passes from him.     Sam Bradford Era?!

    Last game in this series was a success in that the Vikings won 20-13 against the Pack. How much of a downgrade would Sam Bradford be here? This is his last practical chance to shine for a season and get another big contract. He has been downgraded to effective one year deals. GB will be prepared for Adrian and with their thin secondary, this is his chance to shine. Look for a surprise and some decent yardage from him.

    Boston Baltimore : Market Prices

    Both teams need to win this series but for different reasons. Boston does not want to open up a race that is finally getting some distance between them and the pack. Orioles have not only the consideration of the AL East division crown but one of those two Wild Card spots to consider. They can lost three out of four and still be in contention for those. A sweep for either team is damaging at this point. Orioles at home with Bundy on the mound stand near a +115 level ML underdog. Market has been stable on this offering during the overnight period of speculation.

    Head Scratcher?

    Desperation is supposed to be a factor but look at the form that Bundy of Baltimore comes in with and tell me if Boston should be a road underdog here.

    4.91 ERA

    Now Baltimore has at least produced the run support necessary for him to go 2-0 during that stretch for Bundy. So they need offensive fireworks to counter him being on the mound. Porcello’s recent stretch as well as form over the course of the entire season makes this less likely. Opener is off in this as well as the lack of movement in this.

    How will the Philadelphia’s Carson Wentz deal with a silent count that will probably have to be used in Chicago? One of his favorite targets is also going to be out because tight end Zach Ertz is unavailable for this one. Even in the face of this, Philadelphia is maintaining their level as a field goal road underdog. Part of the hesitancy on the part of the betting public for the Bears resides in their unproven secondary. Most are waiting for the status of Kyle Fuller in this one. If he plays then the Chicago -3 looks very certain. So for those that are on the fence about this one, wait until his status is known before pulling the trigger on this one.

    Time to Think

    Few quarterbacks are as polarizing as Jay Cutler when it comes to time to process the play. If he is allowed to be a pocket passer then few can rival the talents that he brings to the game. Asked to move from the pocket and the impromptu nature of the situation gets to him. Jay becomes turnover happy to say the least. Jeremy Langford got close to 60 yards rushing the ball but this team does miss Matt Forte.

    Total has stayed steady at 42 1/2. Chicago does not seem to be a team that will be limited in point production. If you think Carson Wentz can keep up then the over is the bet for you.     NFL Week Three : Browns Downgraded

    Having to go to your third string quarterback in game three will get your franchise faded. Cleveland had to go to Miami being a touchdown dog as they had lost RGIII. When word came out that Josh McCown can not make a go of it because of a bad shoulder then the action was heavy on Miami. Dolphins facing Cody Kessler is now a ten point home favorite. Team has to be irate about their performance in New England. Dolphins showed they can move the ball when the defense does not really care. With the Browns bordering on tanking another season again, it is no wonder that the love is on Miami for their Sunday 1PM Game.

    Other Shifts of Note

    Rams road prospects do not bode well as LA + 3 1/2 has gone to + 5 1/2 at one time when they visit Tampa. Winston has shown that he can score points at home. Rams will try to keep the pace slow but we understand why the early betting progressed this way. The one that is a head scratcher is seeing the movement of Arizona at Buffalo go against the Cardinals. Arizona at the start was -5 1/2 and is now down to -4. Check the live lines section at HRWager to see where it stands right now. Old school thought that west teams in the early Sunday games rarely do well goes against this elite team. Cardinals shown that they can blow out teams at will. Buffalo is about to go into dysfunction with the coach firing people on the offensive side of the staff just two weeks in. We do not agree with the movement for Buffalo in this one.

    Blue Jays score first blood in the Toronto Seattle series that will carry significant weight in the last two weeks of the AL Wild Card pursuit. Grab that second cup of coffee as most of us stayed up late watching Monday Night Football. HRWager beckons to you today for some key profit on the basepaths. Toronto was in danger of sliding off the Earth with their losing streak and going out west. Good for them they adjusted course with a 3-2 win over a very hot Mariners team. Now we have two very good starters to investigate and see which way the profit will come in from on this 10PM start for September 20th.

    Toronto Seattle : Happ Merely Average

    For the duration of the last three games, Happ of Toronto has been merely mortal. Problem is that his walks are six but he has only ten striekouts in comparison. This combined with his inability to get out of jams well has given him a WHIP of 1.30 to an ERA of 3.68. The real issue with him is that at times a team can get him to burn a lot of pitches to get him out early. He only let in three runs before three innings was over but used 85 pitches to do so. His form has returned but look for a shorter start from him with six innings max projected. Has to get into the tired bullpen of Toronto in this one.

    Reverse Home Field

    Here is where the lack of sellout support can flip around home field advantage. Monday saw a throng of Canadians invade, don blue, and cheer for the Blue Jays at SafeCo. Look for the same thing to happen today. Iwakuma is one of the Seattle clutch starters and has recovered his form after hitting the wall in August. With only 11 games to go, another loss to Toronto will just about kill their chances to get an AL Wild Card spot.

    Steady ML price with the total moving from 7 1/2 to 8. Runline Toronto has gone down from +140 to +130 on the -1 1/2 spot. Seattle is the home dog near +110 for this one.     For this edition of the 2016 Clemson Georgia Tech Prediction, the Tigers find themselves struggling out of the gate. Wonderful to see one and all here again at HRWager. Clemson has slide three spots in the polls in large part of their underwhelming performances in the early portion of their schedule. Now they get a stern test as they go into Yellow Jacket (3-0) territory. 7: 30 PM start on Thursday the 22nd of September for this key ACC matchup. Tigers are almost ten point road favorites here. Is this line warranted or does the home dog rule this day here at the HRW?

    2016 Clemson Georgia Tech Prediction : Real Weakness is..

    Wide receivers seemed to have cured their penchant for dropping passes in the first two games. This should be taken with a grain of salt however because Clemson’s last opponent was of the FCS variety. While this is the cosmetic fix, their is a fault with this Tigers team that will bite them in 2016. Too many of their defensive players graduated and headed to the NFL last year. Foundation players like Corey Crawford, Vic Beasley, Shaq Lawson, and Kevin Dodd is going to take the starch out of them in clutch times. Now this is not to diminish the value and progress of Scott Pagano at DT or the super freshman named Dexter Lawrence but this team is going to have some growing pains against teams with a dynamic offensive philosophy.

    Home Field is Key

    Bobby Dodd Stadium has been sort of a burial ground for the Clemson Tigers the last decade. Program has not beaten Georgia Tech in their crib since 2003. It was also the venue that DeShaun Watson had that knee injury during his freshman year. Key to the Yellow Jackets success has been long drives. The option gives them the jail break ability with any play and now they also have the consistency to move the sticks with ease. Almost 250 yards on the ground comprises a good chunk of their near 400 yards in total offense. Do not make the mistake in thinking that this years Clemson defense will be able to stuff the Yellow Jackets option.

    Short work week is a really bad spot to go on the road and face this unusual defense. Sheer athleticism will not cut it. This will be a more competitive game than most think.
