jimmythegreek
When capping in baseball, regardless of the methods one might use, why do websites and newspapers reset a pitcher's record clean just because they've been traded to the other league? Should what they've done up until that point during the ASB really be discounted? If it's part of their career stats, why not incorporate and show it for a full season? Stroppier Milk
It's a different game with respect to pitching numbers. And this has been proven time and time again. A pitcher moving from AL-NL, a pitcher's k rate will rise about half a point, and their walk ratio drops about .5 Most importantly, a move from the AL-NL will see on average, a drop of 0.41 in ERA. jimmythegreek
I understand your point Stroppier, but with respect to incorporating what they've accomplished in a single season. The stats do tell different stories due to the change in leagues. I just think it misleads the public especially early on right after the ASB to just reset the numbers clean. ted sheckler
What happens if a Cy Young candidate, lets say David Price, goes from AL to NL? What if Price were, 19-1 with Detroit, then switches over to St Louis and goes 1-6.Leads the league in K's and wins. Where does he receive the Cy Young? St Louis because he finished there? Or do they reset those stats and the NL only recognizes him as 1-6 and no good. Can he still win the AL even though he didn't finish the season there? Anything like that ever come up? It has happened. Rick Sutcliffe. Sutcliffe started the 1984 season with the Cleveland going 4-5, with a 5.13 ERA. On June 13th he was traded to the Cubs. He went 16-1 with a 2.59 ERA and won the NL Cy Young that year.
