He was clearly more popular to Republican primary voters than the other dozen short term contenders. It does appear that remains the limit of his popularity with regard to being elected POTUS. He is not funding campaign offices, he is not paying top staff. But he is paying all of his own properties which have hosted events and fully reimbursed his own travel expenses.
