He was known locally in Toronto for his line "How about those Blue Jays!" Fergie also owned race horses. I remember one of his horses that used to race at Greenwood raceway in Toronto - HORNBY STEVE was a $20k claiming pacer with soundness issues. He was claimed off Fergie for $20 k and went on to win a whole bunch of races in a row after the claim. Fergie thought he was glad to be rid of the "lame" nag.
