Reno, Nevada - Should I visit ?

There is one thing that I always recommend if you like to drink and are impervious to pain (it's the most popular leisure time activity in the biggest little city after smoking crank): Get an innertube and a shit ton of liquor and float down the Truckee and drink.  You get hammered and won't feel your ass because it will freeze in that water but fun times.

Seems like a unanimous decision - not worth visiting.

Maybe Vegas for BAUS.

I wouldn't say it's not worth visiting. It's worth experiencing. It's a gambling town with western historical roots. I've spent dozens of nights there. It used to be a holdout place for single deck blackjack, doubt if it is now. Back in the day, the MGM Grand was the posh place, almost new when I started going there. It's north of town about half a mile. Food and rooms were cheap if you weren't comped. Its about 4400 above sea level, so the nights are seriously cold this time of year. High desert winter cold.

Tahoe is up the hill, on the California line, at about 6000 feet. It's also a ski place. More upscale, and I think a higher concentration of people from Frisco, Sacramento and the velley down below. About a 45 minute drive from Reno as you have to get to the south end of the lake. High mountain beauty, Ponderosa pine, that sort of thing. It's where Bonanza was filmed. There is a skiing industry there as well, so a mix of people.

I see Reno has changed a fair bit since I was there. It's been there since 1868, and of course, it's where Johnny Cash shot a man, just to watch him die.

Unless you're a skier, I'd wait until late spring to get some heat and greenery about the place.

Listing of the top casinos now. I don't even know if the MGM is there anymore..

BAUS knows damn well Reno and Tahoe provides tremendous +EV gaming and sportsbetting.

Yes but is it worth flying there? The time I am looking to go is around $500. First weekend of March.

Tahoe does sound interesting. Thank you Paddy. Maybe both Reno and Tahoe are the answer.

Sure. I'm sure there's a bus up there. Might be an idea to get a rental for a couple of days. Carson City is about an hour south.
