First sports bet with a non-friend was a 3 team NFL parlay on a parlay card in 6th grade. Lost all 3 games but I can't for the life of me remember the teams but one was the Niners. My friends dad was the gym teacher and he booked parlay cards to his friends and a bunch of the teachers. Me , his son, and one other friend were his "runners" to collect the cards and drop the envelopes.

Remember my first horse bet clear as day, only bc it was a big winner. 50-1 on a long shot at bay meadows where Russell Baze was huge chalk in the race. My grandfather hated Baze so I told him I was wanted to make my first bet against him. He laughed telling me I was throwing my money away. Needless to say my horse won going away and my degeneracy has never stopped, though thankfully have never bet horses for other than entertainment.

one night at bay meadows my dad told me i was crazy for betting a 20-1 across the board in the last race... it won and i went apeshit running all over the place, which had only a handful of people around

dad got pissed that i was rubbing it in and took the car so i had to take a cab  :laugh

We did for dinner only.

Followed that up with some time at an Asian KTV lounge where we bet what color each girls' panties were...Black vs Field :laugh

There's some great KTVs in SF

You ever been to the ones that downstairs at some random place in japantown? It's all mirrored when you walk through?? There's also a good one on Eddy St in the hood.

Haven't been to one in probably 10 years. Might need to go soon.

Hahaha. That's awesome.

I spent wayyyyy too much time as a kid at Bay Meadows. My grandfather loved the ponies and lost most of his vision when he had a stroke. I would be his escort to the track to read him the racing form and to make sure he was betting the right amounts at the window.

Man, I Miss that place! I was sad when they tore it down for some stupid condos.

i'm surprised that a lot of tracks are still operating, some of these pools are embarassing like the dog tracks here before they all closed

Not in a long long while.

Went to one in Japantown maybe 15-20 years ago. That was the last time I went in SF

Back in the 80's when I was running horses at Fort Erie racetrack we used to walk the horses through the public walking area where the patrons were standing.

I'm talking no rail or protection for anyone, if a horse kicked it would be lights out for anyone too close.

They eventually changed that.
