The Saturday MLB schedule will get underway with a matchup between the Red Sox and Minnesota Twins from Target Field. The Red Sox have struggled to score runs this season and are just a game above .500 overall. Rookie Andrew Benintendi leads Boston with 15 RBIs through their first 29 games.

 

Reigning Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello (1-4 4.46 ERA) is off to a shaky start to his 2017 campaign. Boston has lost each of Porcello’s last four starts and he has given up 12 runs over his last 24 innings.

 

In the series opener last night, Joe Mauer homered to left center in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Minnesota Twins to a 4-3 victory. Mauer had two hits, scored twice, and drove in two runs on the evening. RP Brandon Kintzler surrendered two runs in the top of the ninth inning to allow Boston to tie the game and was awarded the victory on Mauer’s blast.

 

Twenty-eight year old righty Nick Tepesch will make his first start of the season for the Twins in this matchup. Tepesch, who previously pitched for Texas, owns a 9-18 career record with a 4.68 ERA over 223 innings of work.
