One thing they absolutely dread. The possibility of a major injury to a starting player in a non-contact practice. The Ravens suffered two devastating injuries. First, it was starting cornerback Tavon Young out for the season with a torn ACL. Starting tight end Dennis Pitta who led the team with 86 catches last year dislocated his hip for the third time in the last five years. It's an injury that may well have ended not only Pitta's season but also his career. The Ravens have only had one winning season the past four years. Mike75
No team has gone through a rougher start to camp this year than the Ravens. Season-ending injuries, a surprise retirement and high-profile quarterback drama have marked the first week of Ravens training camp. Rookie guard Nico Siragusa had to be carted off the field at Tuesday’s practice after injuring his knee during a drill. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Siragusa is done for the season after tests showed he tore his ACL, MCL and PCL. Siragusa, a fourth-round pick this year who was working with the first team at the time of his injury, joins running back Kenneth Dixon, cornerback Tavon Young, tight ends Dennis Pitta and Crockett Gillmore as players lost for the season. Cornerback Maurice Canady is also out indefinitely after having knee surgery, quarterback Joe Flacco has been out of practice due to a back problem and two other players were hurt at Tuesday’s practice. On Tuesday, former first-round pick Breshad Perriman injures a hamstring and two players (Siragusa and wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo) get carted off the field Baltimore also was caught off guard by the retirement of center John Urschel hours before the first practice of the 2017 season. Last year i had someone ask me or rather they dared me to explain how i could rank this team so low and i told them then this is a franchise in decline. Nonsense i was told but i watch these teams closely and sure enough i was correct. In the past this team was lucky to have numerous HOF caliber as well as great players such as Ed Reed,Ray Lewis,Haloti Ngata,Terrell Suggs, etc. The last few years two things have happened to stall this teams progress. One is they aren't bringing in as many difference makers or impact guys as they once did and the other is QB Joe Flacco's 24 million dollar contract is an albatross around their necks and the price they paid for him taking them to and winning a title. That huge contract takes up a lot of cap room. The earliest they can get out of this contract is 2019. Since 2013 they are 31-33 and have had only one winning season in the past four years. Sadly i think this decline will continue which is why i ranked this team 21st out of 32 franchises.
