Dr. Paddy
Just have to have an ability to feel, yet not be consumed. Maybe, if you're a preying mantis male.

Dr. Paddy
This is a two part post. Or a two post set. First, the words to a great American western song written and performed by Norman Blake. Called "Billy Gray" in this version. Have a couple of read throughs, and then listen to the superb performance that is in the next post. LyricsBilly Gray rode into Gantry back in '83.There he did meet young Sarah McRae,The wild rose of morning, that pale flower of dawning,Herald of springtime in his young life that day.Sarah she could not see the daylight of reality. In her young eyes Billy bore not a flaw.Knowing not her chosen one was a hired gun,Wanted in Kansas City by the law. Then one day a tall man came riding 'cross the BadlandsLying to the north of New Mexico. He was overheard to say he was looking for Bill Gray,Perilous man and a dangerous outlaw.Well the deadly news came creeping to Billy, fast sleeping,There in the Clarendon Bar and Hotel. He fled toward the old church there on the outskirtsThinking he'd climb to that old steeple bell. But a rifle ball came flying, face down he lay dyingThere in the dust of the road where he fell.Sarah she ran to him, just cursing the lawman,Accepting no reason, knowing he was killed.Sarah lives in that same old white frame houseWhere she first met Billy some forty years ago.And the wild rose of morning, she's faded with the dawningWith each day of sorrow the long years have sown. And written on a stone where the dusty winds have long blownEighteen words to a passing world say:"True love knows no season, no rhyme, nor no reason.Justice is cold as the Granger County clay."Yes "True love knows no season, no rhyme, nor no reason.Justice is cold as the Granger County clay". Dr. Paddy
As I said a way back above, country music has its roots in the trad music of Ireland, Scotland, and England, brought to America by immigrants in the 18th and 19th centuries. I'm showing a bit of a reversal here, where the song Billy Gray is covered by an Irish band, Planxty in a performance at Vicar Street club in Dublin. In my view, no American country song has the quality of accompaniment these lads give. A few years ago, there was a national poll in Ireland to name the greatest living musician. Obvious contenders Van Morrison, Bono, Sinead O'Connor, Delores O'Riordan, Shane McGowan, and the guy singing this tune below, Christy Moore. He won the poll. I lived there for seven years. In all of those years, Christy had 3 week bookings with one dark night per week at a place called the Point Depot. Set up for about 3000 people. For years, every seat sold out every night within three hours of going on sale. Never could get to see him live.
