Four days short of my 57th birthday and today is my first day of retirement.

It's 11:15AM and so far I got up (7AM), did 15 minutes on the treadmill, took a shower, then a few little things around the house (took out trash, made bed, ate toast, etc.), read some sports and news on the internet, Now What?

I need to establish a good and somewhat productive routine going forward including no smoking grass 'til after 4PM. I have a project to re-paint a bedroom but that doesn't need to be completed until the last week of January.

Any tips from my fellow retirees Sleepy, IAG, Mikeman, others?

Congratulations on your retirement.  What a blessing it must be.

Ideas...

Get involved with a local church/volunteer time to helping others.

Go on a cruise with your wife.

Visit Costa Rica.

Dedicate quality time to your grandchildren.

Pick up a new hobby or trade.

Learn to play an instrument.

Thanks for the great ideas and well wishes guys! As much as I'd love to get high and gamble all day, it's not conducive to good health.

Dingo you're spot on with the naps, 2pm is right in the sweet spot.

Somewhat of an expert napper

I get up early and am always on the go so I usually hit a wall around that time

Jimmy I have been retired since 2006, I love golfing and have a group I play with at least 4 days a week(some fairly high stakes gambling involved to keep it interesting). I love the track also and go 2-3 days a week. When I need downtime I read, I will go through a book a week. Find a topic that interests you, I read a lot of CIA/FBI/operative type books(fiction but factual in how things are done). I was in that world a bit and I like to see how accurate and detailed they are, surprisingly they do quite well.

If you don't golf gamble or read, get a job.

I have 5 more pension credits to get for a full ride so I hope do get it done in 5 (so far 20 for 20) and I’m pretty sure I’ll quit drinking that day...

As far as what I plan to do is build old VW bugs, never been a car guy but can see myself enjoying it if I had the time....

Golf, hiking, garden, books and more books......don’t need travel and I’m done with whores....I can cruise and enjoy life with the basics all the way they death I’m pretty sure

Keep us posted Jimmy I’d like some tips on what works for u and what didn’t

Congrats... Hoffa... Exactly 9 month and 3 days behind you... Ya know I retired 10 years ago and after 10 months I was stir crazy and told my wife, if I can find a job, that fits my schedule and I don't have to work I'd go back to work... Her exact words to me were good luck with that, do you know anyone hiring people that don't want to work...? Guess what, I found it driving a Sienna Van around town for Toyota, dropping folks off at work, casinos, home or out for breakfast... They pay me $100 bucks a day and yesterday I made $94 dollars in tips... Not a bad gig for an old fuck not wanting to do much... They own the van and I have their credit card for gas... 6am to 2pm M--F...

I may keep doing this after I retire maybe 3 or 4 days a week... Nice little pocket change and gambling money...
