They had a class for their raw African mining recruits that went on for 4 full days. The subject of the class was how to use a shovel. There was a wall with dozens of students(grown men) on one side and they would take instruction on how to hold and bend and fill their shovel, and then how to throw the contents of the shovel over the wall.Then they would go to the other side of the wall and do the same thing...for 4 days... then they were ready to use a shovel.
