Mayweather vs. Pacquiao [In-Fight Thread]

good fight overall? I would argue it was the worst superfight of all time

and by far the worst major sporting event of the day... Kentucky derby was great, clippers/spurs game was great, this was pathetic

pac-man was behind on the scorecards and he's landing 3 weak punches per round? embarrassing. could one of them at least throw some hard punches instead of laughing with each other about how much money they ripped everyone off for?

IDK, I enjoyed it Mike and i dont love Boxing. Barely paid attention to the two prelim fights because i simply didnt give a shit

Maybe the difference between you and i (well aside from the obvious difference of you wanting to see floyd get mangled for personal reasons and me hoping he won because of financial reasons) is that i went into the fight expecting to see what happened. I didnt go in thinking we'd see a Rocky vs apollo type of blood bath in the ring or even some crazy Tyson knockout. Of course that would be much more entertaining but i knew that wasnt either guys style. If you watch UFC at all it would be like going into a GSP title fight and expecting a bloodbath war back and forth. Just isn't going to happen, GSP is one of the greatest ever because he leaves every fight looking like he didn't get touched by the other guy and usually wins by decision just like floyd

I can respect and enjoy good technical fighting in both sports. Bloodbaths are nice and of course id rather watch Tyson beat the living crap out of somebody than watch Floyd dance in the ring, but for what i was expecting i enjoyed the fight

that makes sense

but I was expecting exactly what I got except with more punches... which is why I woke up this morning wondering why people paid big money for something so predictable and boring, and weren't disappointed

Well even GSP can get massively fucked up because as good as he was he was nowhere as good in his sport as Floyd is in boxing.

Floyd is a despicable human being. He is also one of the greatest defensive boxers ever. He completely solved Manny. Even when Manny was throwing those body punches in the early rounds and the crowd and the announcers were going wild, they were doing no damage. Floyd is a genius. And despite being a genuine shitbag he is one of the hardest working athletes in the world. If the fight happened 5 years ago, Manny might have won. But Manny was juicing which makes him just as much of a dick as Floyd.

RJ won this thread. I don't like to give the guy credit too often, but you guys should listen to what he's saying. He understands and follows boxing more than watching super fights and probably more than anyone here.

That fight wasn't close. A notorious high volume puncher who is offensively minded was stuck on his heels most of the night and threw about 1/3 as many punched as he typically would. Completely dominated and neutralized.

People need to stop buying floyd fights if they want blood, knock outs and etc. Floyd might be the best technical fighter boxing has had. He's flashier out of the ring than he is in it.

To be fair though it isn't just non informed boxing viewers that complain about Mayweather

Tyson and De La hoya, obv two of the biggest names all time in the boxing world, were both very vocal about not enjoying Mayweathers style and dont think he gives the fans what they pay for

Again, i did enjoy it for what it was. But it wasnt just people that didnt know what they were watching that were complaining, all time greats pretty much were saying the exact same thing about floyd

Everyone that ordered the fight around here didn't get it because of some problem lol. My daughter and son-in-law were at one of them with about 25 people they were pissed.

Cable company said they are going to refund a shit ton of money. I'm glad I had no interest in watching these two old hacks fight

And that's showed in Mayweather's both fights against Maidana. They didn't sell well. I think fans aren't interested in paying for his fights anymore unless he's fighting an opponent they feel has an actual shot against him.

Mayweather vs. Khan or Thurman would be very interesting fights. I hope he fights one of them next.

No.

Fuckin' guy came in at the last minute to talk about Mayweather. I've been saying this shit for two months.

Fuck Squeak.

Have posted for over 5 years that Manny's not capable of beating Floyd and Floyd would cruise to an easy decision win

I seem to recall someone picking Canelo to beat Floyd

Been saying it for years, too, pal. I told VD two years ago that if they fought, Mayweather would be a 2-to-1 favorite... and the guy laughed at me. I was right. :cigar

I thought Canelo would be too big for Floyd to handle.

Canelo will KO Kirkland next week, though!

I thought Manny had no chance against Oscar. Think everyone who follows boxing felt that way' date=' though.[/quote']

In reality, he probably didn't, but they made sure to completely drain Oscar... who probably hadn't fought @147 in ten years. And he agreed not to fluctuate back up in weight... so he was completely dehydrated that night.

[h=2]http://forums.eog.com/images/icons/icon1.png No way Mayweather can beat Pacquiao[/h]

If the fight took place within the next 6 months- there's just no way Mayweather could win. Pacquiao dismantled Margarito. Margarito was an opponent that Mayweather refused to fight in the past.

Max Kellerman was saying that Mayweather is waiting for Pacquiao to break down a bit and show weaknesses before he takes him on. Max says he saw some of that tonight, but I sure didn't. Anything he might have seen was because of the weight advantage Margarito had on Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is just way too good, which means the fight will probably never happen. Mayweather is only undefeated because he carefully selects all his opponents.

That was before jumping on the Mayweather bandwagon, pal. That's what made VD so mad. That I switched up.

Floyd's 100% ducking Pac. Manny gave Floyd all the concessions he wanted during the second negotiations and Floyd still didn't take the fight.

I think Floyd would win a fairly clear decision
, but it's a great fight, which is obviously why everyone in the world wants to see it. Certainly nothing Manny did tonight, as good as he looked, should lead someone to say Floyd can't beat him. Margarito is made for Pac -- painfully slow, throws wide shots, been too inactive of late. He's basically a human punching bag for someone with Manny's hand speed. Floyd would similarly destroy Margarito.

Kinger, your point makes no sense. If anything, one could point to how Shane Mosley beat Margarito just as convincingly as Manny did tonight -- probably even more so since Shane actually closed the show and got the stoppage. Floyd then won all but a single round against Shane. Was a glorified sparring match.

Couple books have had odds up for the fight off and on for about a year and a half. Floyd was around -140 last I saw.

If you didn't make money on this fight then you let emotions dictate your wagers which is never good. Advantage gamblers knew coming into this that getting Mayweather at -180 or so was stealing. True odds were closer to -300.

I think that's what people on Twitter were doing... I showed the picture earlier in this thread. Around 67% thought Pacquiao would win, but I think they were voting with their hearts and were voting on what they wanted to happen... rather than who they actually thought would win the fight.
