sounds like many people listed a lot of different possible triggers.

if it were me and I wanted to avoid the pain and having to see docs going forward.

start keeping a food, drink, activity journal and try to find connections, if you do unfortunately experience pain in the future.

be open to outside the box explanations as well. is it your brake/gas pedal foot? any changes in footware? new furniture? New song that you have tapped your foot to, too vigorously. New sex posit..... well be open to some outside the box thinking anyways

It's not a foot issue - as in a injury, strain, etc, it's a chemical imbalance(too much uric acid building up) - the question is what caused that to happen? Certain foods can cause increased levels of that but your kidneys normally filter that out. For instance alcohol causes your body to become dehydrated(dehydration can lead to elevated levels of uric acid) and also can effect kidney function - so if you're a lush it's prob wise to tone it down. Physical activity can also help so you have that avenue.

Then you have drugs that can regulate uric acid - they work but like all drugs they have side effects and who wants to take drugs everyday? The bottom line is it's prob wise to make modest changes to diet,  alcohol consumption, activity levels etc before you go down that path.

Wrong, when my mom was taking it i checked, there are possible side effects, some semi serious. Why take the chance if it's not needed.

Allopurinol can lower blood cells that help your body fight infections. This can make it easier for you to bleed from an injury or get sick from being around others who are ill. Your blood may need to be tested often. Visit your doctor regularly.

You should not use this medicine if you have ever had a serious allergic reaction to allopurinol. Stop taking the medicine and call your doctor at once if you have any signs of skin rash (no matter how mild), painful urination, blood in your urine, burning in your eyes, or swelling in your face or throat.

Avoid drinking alcohol. It can make your condition worse. Allopurinol may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.

Allopurinol side effects

Stop using this medicine and get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to allopurinol (hives, difficult breathing, swelling in your face or throat) or a severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, burning eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling).

Seek medical treatment if you have a serious drug reaction that can affect many parts of your body. Symptoms may include: skin rash, fever, swollen glands, muscle aches, severe weakness, unusual bruising, or yellowing of your skin or eyes.

Stop using allopurinol and call your doctor at once if you have:

  • any skin rash, no matter how mild;

  • painful urination, blood in the urine;

  • little or no urination;

  • easy bruising, unusual bleeding;

  • numbness, tingling, burning pain;

  • worsening gout symptoms; or

  • liver problems - loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach pain (upper right side), itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Common allopurinol side effects may include:

  • an increase in gout attacks when you first starting taking allopurinol oral;

  • rash;

  • drowsiness;

  • fever, chills;

  • abnormal liver function tests;

  • nausea, diarrhea; or

  • joint pain.

Probably wouldn’t hurt to take an aspirin in the morning also as an anti-inflammatory.  The best control is thru your diet.  My father was a mechanic and would get it in his wrist and elbows mainly.
