Rivians’ Tires Are Wearing Out in as Little as 6,000 Miles with a new set costing $1000

For months now, Rivian owners have debated the cause of a common issue with their electric pickup trucks and SUVs: Rapid front tire wear. Some owners have reported their R1Ts and R1Ses are chewing through tires in as little as 6,000 miles

EVs automatically power down the rear axle above 35 mph in some driving modes. Remember, that's on a three-and-a-half-ton all-terrain truck that can make 835 horsepower in quad-motor configuration. In other words, it may be laying down up to 418 hp through the front axle. That's bound to cause uneven wear, and according to one owner who tested Conserve over a 6,000-mile road trip, it does: it wore an extra millimeter of tread off the front tires.

So lets see, electrics are hard to charge quickly, have limited range, they're fire/explosion risks, if they get damaged you might have to replace a $15K powerpack because you cant know for sure it's not damaged, and to top it off they are not cheaper than gas to fuel up. What a scam.

Ford sells more shares of EV maker Rivian

The sale reduces the shares Ford holds to 86.9 million

Ford Motor has trimmed its stake in the electric carmaker Rivian Automotive for the second time in a week.

Ford sold 7 million shares for about $188.2 million, or $26.88 apiece, according to a regulatory filing on Friday.

The sale reduces the shares Ford holds to 86.9 million.

On Tuesday, Ford had sold about 8 million shares of Rivian worth $214 million.

Initial investors in Rivian's initial public offering were able to sell shares this week as the IPO lockup period expired.

Rivian went public on Nov. 10 at $78 a share. Shares even rose as high as $179 a few days later.

Ford said it suffered a $5.4 billion mark-to-market loss on its investment.

Amazon reported its first quarterly loss since 2015, with a large part of the red ink coming mostly from the company's accounting for a $7.6 billion loss in value of its stock investment in Rivian.

The electric-car maker had slashed its planned 2022 production in half to 25,000 vehicles.

so now the Dept of Energy is a bank?

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced that it will be giving Ford a $9.2 billion loan to build electric vehicle (EV) factories.

let's not taint all electrics with Ford's problems.

I had the unfortunate experience of working for and getting laid off from Ford.

One of the wokest and poorly run companies in America.

Plus they produce shit products.

And all of our insurance rates as non-ev drivers have been jacked up because of these stupid batteries on wheels.  If they get in a wreck the entire battery is in jeopardy and has to be replaced.  It’s a completely unsustainable concept.  Maybe one day they will come up with something to replace natural gas but EV isn’t it.  Nobody is buying these things at the numbers they were expecting and they’re losing billions.

yes the odds are worse now that he didnt make the debate. but its not quite over yet. doesnt look good tho

Michigan presidential hopeful Perry Johnson said Tuesday he's considering suing the Republican National Committee after the organization determined the self-funding candidate didn't qualify for this week's first GOP presidential debate.

The debate is set to take place Wednesday night in Milwaukee. Johnson had planned to be one of the Republicans on stage to gain attention for his outsider bid for the nation's top office. But when the RNC released its list of the eight individuals who qualified to participate, the Bloomfield Hills businessman and self-described "quality guru" wasn't included.

Not only that but if you owned one you'd almost be forced to keep full coverage on the car(costing many 100's) because you couldn't take a chance on the accident/battery replacement need.

The overriding failure of them is the fact that electricity costs are way up and are going to continue to rise, likely faster than gas.

So right now it's kinda a wash, in a few years it will definitely be cheaper to fuel with gas.

Routing for Ford to fail.

Ford was on their deathbed when they decided to stop making cars - a truly stupid thing to do. Small cars are a path to brand loyalty, you might own a ford in your 20's and later in your3 0's or 40's you buy a F-150. No one is going to go from buying a toyota or honda and then later in life buy a ford truck - they'll buy a toyota truck.

I understand their thinking - that they simply din't make any money on cars but made a fortune on trucks, so why sell cars.

That's penny wise pound foolish IMO.

Ford’s EV Plan in Trouble

Story by Douglas A. McIntyre •1h

Ford was supposed to be able to build 600,000 electric vehicles (EVs) this year. Then, it wasn’t. The date was pushed back to the end of 2024. Now, Ford may be unable to sell all those EVs, even if it hits that production number. Too few people want an F-150 Lightning, Ford’s electric flagship

Ford needed the Lightning to be a success. The F-150 is the gas-powered flagship of Ford and the best-selling vehicle in the United States for four decades. If Ford cannot sell an electric version, the company will be in deep trouble regarding the balance of its EV model line

Bill Ford, Ford’s executive chair, who controls the company via his family’s shares, said the Lightning is the most important vehicle launch of his tenure. Sorry, but it isn’t working out as planned.

If you build it they will come.  Gasoline is on the way out.  Deny it all you want.  It’s happening.

It can happen or not things that are good and smart people should figure out and adapt too, when you force feed it is almost like there is an ulterior motive, perhaps money:mutley. You know like the 81 million smart people that voted for Biden this should be a slam dunk for them to all have an EV vehicle.

Jasson, if you live another 20 years, you too will own an EV.

It's now cheaper to buy gas than it is to charge, how are you saving money, add in the cost of ins - far higher and it's a terrible way to "save" money.

It isn’t cheaper to buy gas no matter how many times you say it.  Most drivers charge at home.  You like to use Supercharger rates which are 2-3 x as expensive.  The majority of Tesla drivers only use superchargers while traveling.  95% of the time you charge at home.  In my case I get free charging at work.  I pay to charge maybe 5% of the time.  Also my insurance is cheaper than an ice vehicle
