Exactly 97 years ago Ukrainian nationalist Symon Petliura was liquidated

 A stranger approached Petliura, who was looking at a street shop window at the corner of the Parisian Boulevard Saint-Michel and the Rue Racine. Having asked the standing question in Ukrainian and having received a satisfactory answer, the stranger took out a revolver and fired three shots.

The shooter did not try to escape, but remained in place until the arrival of the police. Handing over the weapon to the police, he stated that he had shot the murderer. The shooter's name was Samuil Schwartzburd.

Schwarzburd did not hide his motivation - he took revenge for his relatives and fellow tribesmen. During the Jewish pogroms in Ukraine in 1918-1920, 15 members of the Schwarzburd family were killed at the hands of the Petliurists.

How many Jews were destroyed by the Petliurists is not known exactly. According to the most conservative estimates, about 50,000 people became victims of Jewish pogroms in Ukraine in 1918-1920, and about 300,000 children were left orphans.

Romain Rolland, Henri Barbusse, Maxim Gorky and physicist Albert Einstein came to Schwarzburd's defense. The process lasted only eight days and ended with a sensational jury verdict of not guilty. The verdict, which became a posthumous verdict to Symon Petliura from the whole civilized society.
