I'll be in vegas next week, I'll walk down there and check it out. It's about 1 mile south of the plaza? that's doable.

I'll have my fanny pack and new balance shoes.

I need a favor Mike.

There's a guy that sleeps outside of White Castle. Last time I was there he asked me for a buck. I lied to him and told him to wait there while I run over to the ATM at Walgreen's to get some cash. However I didn't go to the ATM and I didn't return to give him a buck either.

I've been feeling bad about it ever since.

Tell him I'm sorry will ya?

Be glad to, one time I was waiting to cross the st where the duece bus  stops by neonopolis,  a beggar asked me for a buck and i said sorry. then he said "do you have $20", I said yes but I'm not going to give it to you, he kinda smirked.

I miss the days of walking down to the old western casino, lots of friendly guys standing around asking me if I'm "looking" for anything.

I  walk there all the time.  Sometimes bike, sometimes Uber, depending on my mood and fitness.

If you tell me what day you are going I could even show you around.

The Gold Spike had a nasty edge to it also. I believe it was once voted the Vegas Casino Most Likely to Get Shanked in.

There are a bunch of hipster type places popping up in the arts district.

Rebar, Jammyland, Three Sheets, etc.

Rebar is Ok.  Only so many old action figures and coffee cups you can look at while drinking shitty drinks.

Jammyland is almost never open.  Like the concept had outstanding bartenders they stole fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff             fffrom Herbs and Rye but they seem to not care to stay open or just underwhelm.

Three Sheets is great but I'm almost always the only one there (I don't go on weekends, usually weekdays) and the owner is rich and doesn't really care if it succeeds short term.

I wouldn't even say they are in the top ten of notable places down there though.

LOL my f key is stuck on this old laptop.

Those tech types and hipsters dont live anywhere near that formerly dumpy and dangerous area, most people party and  drink somewhere near where they live.

Give me the name of one or two of the competition and I'll google them.

There is no competition so I can't.  I can give you the name of a bunch of bars and restaurants.

First Friday is really the reason the arts district has become trendy.

That day alone, businesses in the area will be absolutely slammed every month.

Chicken or egg.

Without the breweries, bars, or restaurants no one would go.  It was a ghost town for 3 years during road construction.

First Friday is pretty underwhelming to me.  But yes, it did introduce a lot of people to the area, and a lot of investors.

Depends.  Some live music.

I don't think there is much live music at all down there.  I can't think of the name of the place but Bruce Kalman's BBQ place was going to do some things, Taverna Costera does a rooftop deck but mostly DJ oriented with occasional bands, and none of the other places do any sort of entertainment that I'm aware of other than the comedy club.

Downtown has BBB and the country Club, Ferguson occasionally will do a show, and the rest is just shit row of DJs on East Fremont.  Beauty Bar used to but they turned that into a grafitti ice cream disco (not lying).  Plaza is coming online with the Sand Dollar but the British kid will somehow fuck that up like he does everything else.

The amount of residential development, along with the potential new soccer stadium downtown in the next 10 years will link up Fremont and 18b but those two are going to remain interdependent largely because the ones going to the Arts District are going there BECAUSE its not downtown and the ones going to downtown are the ones looking for the lowest common denominator of entertainment and pricing.

I went in there with my mom once - she was prob in her early 70's, the smoke was so thick she said she was feeling sick and getting woozey, I said lets get out of here but she said no because her machine was paying off. :mutley

Another time a guy at the spike asked me for money(he thought I was a veteran), he was playing the slots at the time. Yea, I'll just give money to guys losing at the slots, LOL. Lots of good times at the old Gold Spike - they'd also yell checks play if you bet 2 red chips.

Sounds like these trendy, hip places are struggling to get a footing, those hipsters and tech types dont go out boozing on weekday nights(or days).

see now that is a nice, informative post

when you're not insulting people and acting like a know-it-all you're actually capable of being an intelligent, civil human being

Usually if I post from my phone I'm out doing something or drinking and gambling and am a prick.

If I'm home on laptop I'm either working on a project or getting high and am much nicer.

There's probably a few other personalities in there too but I am self aware.

ha i know the feeling since that's pretty much all i do

:cheers

The job you have is not conducive for a drinker, which might be a blessing in disguise

True I've been doing this for almost twenty years I'm ashamed to admit the first decade or so I probably could have been picked up almost every day and luckily was never drug tested lol.
