I have 2 - a roth that I can withdraw from tax free, and a rollover of my old 401K that's taxable when i withdraw, so I balance them out to make sure I pay little or no taxes. The problem is gold can go years and years without moving or even falling, silver is even worse. you cant do that with retirement money.
