what's a catalog?

Those thick and heavy paper items full of pictures that weigh down a letter carriers mail pouch and make their job even more miserable.

There used to be a store called Sears that sent them out by the millions.

Sears had everything.

It was a department store and you would get dragged down there on a Saturday afternoon for hours.

Dad would go to the automotive and hardware areas and hopefully you got to go with him because he might take you to the toy department but wouldn't buy you anything.

Mom went to the boring stuff like the clothes and housewares department. Sometime she even went to the 3rd floor to look at shit like sheets and furniture.

On the way out if you were lucky you might get a pit stop at the candy department and get some fresh popcorn.

3 hours minimum.

it used to be quite exciting paging through the sears catalog - prob 1000 pages, looking at all the shit you could buy.

It was a battle between us brothers as to who would get to the Magic Markers first to draw beards on the unattractive models.

I think there was also a montgomery wards catalog and pennies as well.  Sears was king though.

Also 98% of the catalog was simple newsprint(thin paper), no glossy high end paper.
