Anyone ever eaten at Joe's Stone Crab?

seems like you are being sarcastic... have you tried lobster without salt and hot butter?  kind of a nothing taste.  if you really think you have a natural love of lobster, that has nothing to do with pop culture, then go grab a raw one and eat it!

there is a placebo effect to everything, that's the only reason these fancy restaurants can charge $450 for 4 people to eat there and still have a line

people line up to throw their money away when they could buy a $5 box of twinkies and have something that tastes better

I was being sarcastic.

But I do think there is some truth to your point.  For sure.  But not with just lobster.  I think the same could be said for a lot of different food.

I have had some great lobster, and I have had some very bland and tasteless lobster.  I think it really depends on what type of lobster it is, and how it is prepared.  But that could be said for all sorts of different foods.

have you ever watched the penn & teller bullshit episode on food?

they are in higher end restaurants and serve crappy canned food instead and almost everyone still falls for it... just like with drugs they have to compare it to a placebo, because if you think something is going to cure your headache that mentality is most of the benefit

my mother got some really great crab legs here from empire fish all the time, because I didn't like lobster as much... it was really cool because the owner there would take us into the back and show us all these individual coolers with puffer fish and all kinds of exotic sea creatures.  then I got handed a cooler with my special crab legs in it, and my mom would get lobsters for everyone else

they were probably among the best crab legs in the world, but as a kid they still would've tasted great to me just because it was like I got the holy grail every time I went in the back and we were treated like a queen with her little prince

WVU - How long was the wait when you went?

My wife loves their stone crabs.

You can take out from their setup next door

in the late aft and avoid the wait on busy nights

( eg new year's eve )

Heading down in a few

we got there early on a Sunday (5:30). The wait was about an hour.

WVU,

here is an interesting fact about those Stone Crabs

They don't actually kill the Crabs that you eat.

These Crabs are caught and 1 Claw is removed from the Crab and then the Crab is thrown back into the Ocean. The Stone Crab much like a lizard's tail will re-grow itself back to normal.

This is known as a sustainable seafood.

pretty cool huh?

Its like the exact opposite of what those Chinese assholes are doing catching those Sharks and cutting the Shark fin off and throwing them back in the ocean. That actually kills the Shark which very cruel. But Chinese also eat cats so they are very a strange breed.

^^if you think that's cool, I can rip off your fingers and see if they grow back

LOL

btw Mike .... i disagree about your seafood being a placebo effect thing. I love seafood. It doesnt have to be fancy to taste good though. In Islamorada FL most places serve the food on paper plates but it all taste amazing. Also IMO the Dungeness Crab taste better than Lobster but those huge Florida Lobster tails are great on the grill

taste buds change

they probably have spices and hot butter on that seafood, different from the old days when those workers would have it in their contract that they wouldn't eat lobster.

same as steak, nobody would eat it if it wasn't cooked and spiced... we're the only animals that eat food that we wouldn't naturally eat raw

:cheers

Keep meaning to go there and never have......

i saw it on Man vs Food so i decided to go. Its a casual atmosphere, friendly asian chicks as servers, they served bottled beers with only a few choices... beers werent exceptionally cold.. but you can choose from King Crab, Snow Crab, Dungeness Crab, Blue Crab, Shrimp and they bring it out to you with corn and potatos in these plastic bags and dump it on your table. Very tastey but messy. Great spot to hit up on the way to the Orleans casino for some college hoops action.

We have beer snobs here.

We have pizza snobs here.

Now we can add seafood at high end restaurant snobs to the list.

:jerk

totally agree with diabler here

i eat the casino buffet for free at least 5 times a week (run by bartolotta)... it has more choices and better food than 99% of all restaurants and there's no waiting/tipping/pretentiousness/etc

i can't imagine spending 450 for my family to eat, even if i bring them to the casino buffet it only costs me $50 worth of points.  and my son eats more than $50 worth of pizza lol

Ok, here ya go.......if in Vegas and want good crab.

1. M steakhouse

2. Buzios Rio

3. Crab Corner

There ya go

yeah because crab in Vegas will be tastier than freshly caught Florida crab.  Flying that shit in is not the same as a few hours off the boat.  You got your Oscar's crabcakes which are out of this world good, though.
