Pretty much from the many people I know in the state-legal businesses which began operating in California in 1997 and now operate at significant level in six states.

 

It's the Elephant in the room. The one legitimate observation put forth by those who oppose legalization. That is, once the product can be legally produced and stored within a large geography there is absolutely no way goverment agencies can prevent diversion into the black market.

 

So on one hand, the DEA and state level narcs cry, "Don't legalize! It will be too easily diverted!"

 

But once it's rolling, they have to speak out the other side of their mouth and claim success with intervention so as to justify continued funding of their agencies.

 

It's reasonable to state that most government-run agencies across the board demonstrate varying levels of dishonesty with the public so as to justify their existence.

 

But there is likely no branch of government more dishonest than those tasked to "control illegal drugs". And they have held that dubious distinction since at least 1971 when Nixon formed the DEA and the "War on Drugs" began it's rise to a multi-hundred billion dollar per year tail chase
