groovinmahoovin
JK was trying to get Computer Bob reinstated. Some Honcho at EOG named "#1" had him banned. Anyone heard any new news?I mentioned a few posts back in the thread that the ban was lifted a few days ago.
groovinmahoovin
Marty, I tend to agree with you about leaving tout customers alone, because what they lose to the tout would otherwise just be going to the books anyway. The exception is, as groovin points out, the truly dangerous stupidity of chase systems, and the boiler room tactics involved when touts get their claws into customers. This article is a fantastic example of why I do what I do: http://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/04/gambling-software-helped-amateur-make-1300-in-12-days.html This is a blatant advertisement for a shitty tout service where followers won't win long term anyway, but even if the service was +EV, given this guy's bet sizes, there's no way he would win long term paying the $250 a month they charge. I spoke to a guy recently who lost over $10k betting $150 a game following their crap. They claim to "consistently pick 54-55% winners in all major sports", but if you add up their records it shows they only pick around 52.5-53% cherry picking the best lines from square books like Bovada, BetUS, and sportsbook.ag. A monkey could pick 52.5-53% when you are "fading the public" using lines from those books, which can't be duplicated for profit because 1) the limits at those books are too low to overcome their $250 a month fee and 2) those books will just boot you if you consistently bet those teams, in the case of Bovada quickly switch you to a different line set, and in the case of BetUS or sportsbook.ag possibly just stiff you. groovinmahoovin
And re: what pokerjoe said "what they lose to the tout would otherwise just be going to the books anyway," I've had debates before with knowledgeable people about whether, as winning gamblers, touts benefit or hurt us, and I think you can reasonably argue either way. I think there's a reasonable argument scam touts make sports betting look worse in the eyes of the general public and that helps keep it illegal outside of a few jurisdictions, and the money the touts take from customers is mostly not going back into the betting pools. Some of these touts charge very large fees, for example on Vegas Insider the touts regularly charge $50 a pick. I suppose it's possible by buying a pick, these people are encouraged to bet larger than they would otherwise, which could still help us. In any case, I only have a tiny influence, I post on a couple forums and only have about 3,700 Twitter followers compared to RJ Bell's 131k, or VegasDave's 126k, or Teddy Covers' 25k. I've had countless people tell me they know someone who works for some media outlet or podcast and "I bet you'd be a great guest on the show!" and I say "I mean feel free to put me in touch but these shows all promote touts so I doubt they want me shitting on their past and future guests." One radio host told the guy who suggested me "Oh I can't have that guy on my show, he trolls good honest pro handicappers like Teddy Covers." We have 7 years of ComptrBob tracking that shows Teddy doesn't win, people showed that host the records, and he just accused Bob of cherry picking only the losing seasons. Another supposed "pro bettor" who makes media appearances told me he won't criticize touts because he doesn't want to make enemies. I mean imagine being someone who supposedly makes your money gambling and worrying about what Vegas Runner or Philly Godfather or whoever thinks about you. Bucky
Sports forums were originally invented to be watchdogs and inform readers about shaky places to bet at - where people were getting screwed over. Then we found out there should be watchdogs to watch the watchdogs. The discussion earlier on whether money paid to touts is lost to the gambling ecosystem was interesting. Consider the fact that touts generate some volume - how much is anybody's guess? Losing volume is good for the sports book and the winning player. I don't know - Samuel Colt invented a pistol that killed a lot of people. Wonder if he slept at night? But, my opinion is winning players should be happy that touts are around to get volume into the books that would not be there otherwise. When you think of the scenarios of what would it take to put the sports books out of business one of the big things would be if more people won. Ever heard of a sports book kicking a player out because he won using a tout's picks?

ACH
The only thing I can figure about the way they run their contests over there is they think that people want to see the picks more than be in the contest. I actuallly tried to sign up over there for that contest and the place is nailed down tighter than Fort Knox. Better chance of breaking into the Pentagon than getting on that site. KingRevolver
In the thread, JK mentions that "1" is a boxing sharp..... Met JK at the Silverton. At the time he was getting into the boxing business... was managing (or something or another) a boxer and they were on their way to the airport. He introduced me to the boxer, and told him I was a boxing historian and sharp.

Dr. Paddy
This will clear the air on the saga of "1" over at EOG. No idea who it is now. Possible Brock Landers. Quote:Originally Posted by ZzyzxRoad I didn't know that. Tell me more.Okay, even though I'm reluctant to discuss a family member's sexual dalliances with a very large, but not obese, African American man who owned a sailboat kept in the marina at Morro Bay, just west of San Luis Obispo. Suffice it to say that Teddy (my cousin once removed) and this man, Harley, were, and possibly still are, buttwelders. Much was consumated there in that sheltered waterway, in that 60 foot ketch named the Inside Passage. Ironically. Harley was from Silicon Valley, and a tech and hacking genius. Using Teddy's account, and some specialist software, and a part time hooker named Maria Teresa Gonzales Martin (pronounced marteen), they got into the system in Costa Rica. Their plan, which was not completely formed as is the nature of turd tampers, was to cause disruption at EOG, and paint a picture of ineptitude and get rid of some homophobes, like Mr. Merlin and Trailer Park Boys. There was a certain amount of vindictiveness in it, mostly on the part of Teddy, who resented rejection of his claims that he was a Hall of Fame poster. John Kelly really never knew who was behind EOG. He admits as much. So, for over a month, and with access to EOG "offices" in San Jose, Maria Teresa began communicating with John Kelly as "1". one of the owners, and eventually advised John that there was a plan to clean up EOG to make it more saleable as the single go to site for online gaming news. An attempt to knock Peeps out of the number 1 spot. The plan was this "1" persona was going to come on, tell the story you saw her tell, for it was really, at the beginning, this hooker. Part time hooker. But before that, Teddy wanted to take a break. He'd taken a beating in a back room in a gay bar in Beatty, Nevada while rednecks held Harley at gunpoint. (You probably saw the photos). And he'd picked up an irritating butt rash that made it painful to sit at a computer and post. So the word came from the hooker (1) for JK to put the knife in Teddy. And John did, not knowing that it was Teddy pulling his strings. Then "1" v1 or 1.1 as techies say, came in laying the law down and banned some, eventually including me. Once I was gone, Teddy shifted me the password for what became 1.2, and I posted as him for three or four days. That was the period when we were monitoring Raiders PM's and he was PMing me thinking I was 1, and he had the meltdown which I'm sure most of Forumville remembers. Then Blondie, the old mod from Shrink days, took over from me, and I started all that eyeoneog.com stuff. So I was banned by agreement by the hooker, then I took over from the hooker, and passed the nick on to Blondie. All the time leading JK around by the nose. At one point, we got an expat Costa Rican plumber to pose as 1 and physically meet JK, who posted about being very impressed. The two of them went to meet the Pillsbury Dough Boy and Civil War II vet who needed a car, and gave Dave $15 to tell the story of getting a check from EOG.I went back as a different owner, and had everybody thinking I was legit for about 24 hours and then got canned. Then a real owner of EOG came on with the username Patty, by coincidence, and somehow he got banned from his own site. At that point, they discovered the hack and began to shut them down. The last thing they did was lift Teddy's ban after the butt rash died down and he could post again.
