Right now the FICA tax is a tax only on the poor and middle class.  The Rich should start paying their share of it.

Yes, you're capped on how much you pay in currently but you're also capped on benefits.  It's not a bogus analogy.  If you remove the cap that someone pays in but not the cap that someone is paid in benefits, that means they pay A LOT more for the same benefit.

Very true on gerrymandered districts. Looking at a district map in any reasonably-sized city is very troubling. I live next to a gerrymandered House district in my city here in Ohio.

Tariffs did not raise inflation because the American consumer spends a shit ton on services not cheap Chinese shit. The strength of the dollar shoved down Turnips throat by the smarter President helped to lessen the blow by absorbing cost of the tariffs. When you devalue your currency 8% what is a 15% tariff?

 

The 60 -70 billion in Tarrifs is fukk all in a 22 trillion economy.

 

Last I checked of real tariffs, American importers were eating less of that burden and consumer paying more. An American Corp. ir an American consumer paid the Tariffs and they were never a serious threat to inflation nor were they predicted to be.

If someone gets the max SS benefit, say it's $8000 in the future.  Someone who made $100k would have paid $12,400 per year (if they are employed) while someone who made $300k per year would have paid $37,200 per year under your plan.

 

It was intended as a program for saving for retirement, not as a progressive tax.

Yes.  That's how it's fixed sensibly.  But just that simple program has broken over time due to unforeseen circumstances.  And the solution is still a progressive tax.  Imagine something as complex as free college and healthcare and what implementing those programs entail.  Once those programs are in place, there is no going back.  No matter how much of a failure they become.  And there won't be any room left for politicians to tax their way out of it.
