I’ve never seen that phrase written before. It’s sort of eloquent, in an extreme-socialist way.

I don’t think one can enter into a tax rate voluntarily though. It’s usually something imposed upon you, by a king or a government.

BAUS

That is because you have not considered all the options. People think the economic system is God's law. It isn't. It is the creation of govt.

You had 70% taxes after the great depression when the wealthy's assets had been reduced by 80%. The communists were on the march and threatening to take the other 20%. You did not even have socialism in much form until the Russian revolution.

Debt throughout history has been illegal. The government can declare all debt to be eliminated. This would end 90% of all wealth in the world.

The govt can also nationalize all oil, banks, electricity, water and impose taxes on financial transactions that would all but eliminate paper wealth.

Some of this is going to happen in one form or another and it will likely start with Medicare for All which is going to put a huge dent in health care profits down the line.

So yes, 70% taxes are preferrable to a lot of things.

ACH is all for extreme SOCIALISM.

Unless he has to share his "illegally won" $10k, nope, he is full capitalist there.

ACH you should move to France, full-blown banking socialism with Macron and they lowered the age of consent. PedoRailer would be happier there,

There is nothing more hilarious than a broke Latin American libertarian.

Yes, I'll be moving to France before Latin America.

You don't get it! It's not 70% on every dollar of taxable income. It's would be 70% on every dollar over 10 maybe 20 million. You're still left with plenty of money to purchase assets.

This same taxpayer doesn't make this kind of income in another country. Plus most of the wealthiest subject to this tax own businesses and are making fortunes, so they also have family members on payroll, ownership which reduces the tax liability. Less exposure at the 70% marginal rate.

But I know you don't get it. I hope some do.

The 1% richest Americans own more wealth than 90%.

Big Runner aka Michael Moore is correct here.

Because the USA is perhaps the only country in the world that forces its citizens to pay income tax on worldwide income, regardless of where they live.

One of the guys who make millions or billions off Facebook renounced his citizenship and took off so he didn’t have to pay tax on it.

BAUS

Not all worldwide income and only over $100k.

Rental income and other non-jobber oriented income is exempt.

Yes I fully understand what a 70% tax rate will do. It will cause wealthy people to move their assets to a reasonable country. And also renounce American citizenship, which has been climbing year after year by the way.

So there will no be actual increase in tax revenues. Companies will close and unemployment will rise even further. More people will need food stamps then ever before, yet there will be no tax revenue to support it. The government will print more money, which will cause inflation, and the whole thing will become a disaster.

Pretty easy to see how a 70% tax rate will play out.

BAUS

Spot on!

Hmmm, are there people out there that really think the world can be made fair? Do you?

Key word: *more*

We will never have full or even mostly equality--nor should we. That's when you get into hardcore communism and socialism......But what makes a republican??

A limited govt, strong defense and a structure to society that ensures survival generation after generation.

Well, our republic is perverse on $$$ being concentrated in the hands of a very few, and those people made that $$ off of and in our republic. By making things more fair, rather than them controlling 90% of the wealth, even 70-75 is ridiculous enough, yet that 15% or so could do WONDERS for our republic.

We need to treat our people as our number one resource and ensure that we also keep a strong structure to society.

We can do this without getting wild, and in a way that doesn't fundamentally alter our system.

Now, the election of Trump showed we can look to outsiders to shake things up.

Bernie is the next shake up. Get ready.

Lots of things that need to be done, unfortunately there is not one person in the US today that is capable of overseeing any of it. With politicians being the least qualified, least trusted, least capable.

Therefore none of it should even be attempted.

The whiny argument that "we need to redistribute wealth" should be replaced with..."work hard, study hard, do your best, persevere" , which is what other countries(india, china, etc) do all the time.

Part of it.

We should never have a system where a select few control 90%.

You got your head in the sand man, americans are stupid, uneducated. Go to places people are, games/bars/walmart, go anywhere, talk to people, listen to people, what do you see, it's like the movie the 6th sense except it's "I see dumb people".

The reason wealth is becoming more concentrated is because half the people in the country are lazy morons, urban hillbillies, rural hillbillies, they have no money because they contribute little or nothing.

I voted for Bernie in the primary last time. My problem with him is he let the dems get away with shutting him out of even the possibility of winning the primary. He had zero shot even if he got the votes as the delegates conspired to put Hillary in no matter what

If the most powerful D’s savataged him last time, why would they embrace him this time?
