Timely Hitting
For the second time in Hamilton's life, it looks like a drug addiction is going to cost him a lot of money. Hamilton is meeting with MLB brass today in regards to, what is being whispered, another relapse. It's a damn shame too, because Hamilton is one of the most talented players EVER to put on a pair of spikes. The fact that he became what he did despite his first bout with drugs shows how talented he was - drugs ate away at his talent, but he still had enough to be one of the games best players. When he was drafted, Hamilton had set records in the 60 yard dash at showcases, threw his fastball 98 MPH (the fastest for a high school player that year) and he could hit the ball a mile. It looks like he may cost himself tens of millions of dollars. I have no clue what the Angels were thinking letting him rehab outside of team facilities. Maybe they were hoping for this. Suspension and situation coming is "worse than PED's."

Sharp Square
Shame indeed but i don't think its all that surprising. Texas didn't want to commit to a long term deal with him and i think this was a big part of the reason.
StayGolden
Did angels have provision in contract that they can void it? if so, dirtbags were probably rooting for this to happen
Yanks
I see this everyday. I have seen people relapse and die and relapse and come back to the program and work it even harder. You have to take your sobriety seriously. Once you think you don't have a problem anymore is when you get in trouble. It's a life long struggle. It's a life long struggle. even with booze, i have found out the hard way a couple times that it's a lot different once you are sober... the tolerance is no longer there and the same amount of booze/day that kept me going in the past could easily mean death or serious illness now. Timely Hitting
Did angels have provision in contract that they can void it? if so' date=' dirtbags were probably rooting for this to happen[/quote'] It is really hard to believe, and understand, that the Angels front office thought it would be best for Hamilton to rehab away from the team. Nearly every player would join his team in spring training and rehab with the team physicians, but with Hamilton they allowed him to stay at his buddies house in Houston (I believe that's where, could have misread it though) and rehab away from the team. Given how much Texas used to monitor Hamilton's every move, you have to figure that the Angels understood the risk here. Texas used to have someone who practically followed/lived with Hamilton 24/7 to prevent this stuff.

Escambo
Did angels have provision in contract that they can void it? if so' date=' dirtbags were probably rooting for this to happen[/quote'] That's the thing. The MLBPA is a the strongest players union for a reason. I find it hard to believe Hamilton will lose everything. He may lose a year's pay, but he's still going to get his. If the Yankees were unable to break ARod's contract, the Angels won't be able to either.

I find it hard to believe Hamilton will lose everything. He may lose a year's pay, but he's still going to get his. If the Yankees were unable to break ARod's contract, the Angels won't be able to either. I would imagine they have a stipulation for substance abuse in his contract. That said, it looks like Hamilton never tested positive under the MLB policy - only MiLB policy - so he may fall under the first time offenders provision which would save him. That said, I tip my cap to Hambo - maybe there is some evidence coming out and I don't know about it, but Hamilton apparently didn't fail a test or anything - he ratted on himself and turned himself in for violating the substance abuse policy. BarryRunSome
The Angels have to be THRILLED he relapsed. Whats his contract say? I could have sworn Hamilton had a clause at one time where if he failed a test the contract was voided. Might have been his deal with Texas. Not sure about this contract

milwaukee mike
Weak minded people are 'addicts'. Anyone has the ability to stop. i'd recommend going to a detox facility and seeing how sick people are in the process... there is a physical illness involved in trying to stop alcohol or drug abuse.
