Japan did not "make it across the ocean to attack the USA". The attack on the US military base at Pearl Harbor - over 1000 miles from the US mainland - was a preemptive strike in hopes of keeping US forces from interfering with Japan's vision of taking over the Pacific Rim of East Asia.

 

Turns out that was a foolish move on their part because it drew a focused response from our military that culminated in two nuclear strikes against their homeland.

 

In the meantime, the US mainlnland was never under threat from the Japanese.

 

As for the years since, no foreign government has made even a cursory attempt to strike the USA. The thought of such is wholly preposterous because no nation could mobilize either the manpower or the other trillions of dollars in resources to cross either ocean.

 

IF HOWEVER, you personally fear such an invasion then by all means continue to pretend it is the US military keeping you safe in whatever US city you live....while setting aside the fact that said Mighty Military utterly failed to protect the 3000 people who died on 9/11/01 when 19 killers - most of then from a country our military utterly refuses to confront - Saudi Arabia

Asked and answered....the Japanese military strikes at both PH and Guam were in their view, self-defense within the context of fueling their takeover of the Pacific Rim. At no point was the USA mainland or general population in their sights

The US military has not fought active combat for "our country" in 150+ years.

 

They have, however waged very bloody conflicts on behalf of the people in England, France, South Korea, South Vietnam, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and of course Israel...killing literally millions in the process.

 

If anyone should be standing at public sporting events to salute the US military, it would be far more logical for the people of those countries.
