Timely Hitting
BUY AMERICAN!!These are American companies that are importing a lot of stuff from Mexico. Unless you mean buy things that are made in the US only, which would make the price of something like an IPhone be about $5000.

Timely Hitting
Do you guys know what happens someone's goods prices increase by 20% in a free market? If you think this will promote more manufacturing in this country you are out of your mind. Even with a 20% tax hike, the cost to make those goods and import them would still be much cheaper than producing them in this country. All it would do is increase the cost for you and I. I don't understand some of this countries obsession with manufacturing. Go get a degree in a field that is hiring; don't blame the government for your work being outsourced. Go educate yourself, and get a job in one of the fields that are actually exploding in this country. Also, how the ff is imposing a 20% import tax and a free market the same thing? You clearly are not a proponent of a free market, because you want to influence the production of goods and don't want the market to dictate production; you want the President and a tax to dictate production. I do think it will promote more manufacturing. Someone will come along and produce now that the playing field is more level. But the easier solution is to just import those same products from someone else.

Spain is beautiful and if they can get that architecture done here in 50 years, would be astounding. Last year, visisted that church in Barcelona that was almost complete after 100+ years...Would love to see that in the US in 1/3 of the time. Do you have sources that Trump is trying to make the US look like Spain?

Timely Hitting
Is there anything Mexico makes that can't be imported from other countries?American companies have already built their facilities there for production. You want them to shut down those plants and build somewhere else that doesn't have the tax? Then in 10 years, you'll be upset about the trade deficit with those countries because their ability to pay their employees less and then you'll want to impose tax on them too. If you believe in a free market, as you are claiming, then this tax is absurd and does not fit that belief. The free market, lack of significant import tax, has led to a dramatic drop in the price of goods for the average american over the last few decades. KingRevolver
It's great to pay more for the same product we were getting before all so the guy can build some pointless wall? How is that great? If you raise import tax 20% - in which much is being imported from Mexico is produced by American Businesses - all that happens is those businesses don't make as much money so people lose their jobs in addition to them off-setting the tax by charging more for the product so the consumer pays more. This isn't complicated economics. These people don't care. They just want to see a shiny wall for their own amusement.

rito
Is there anything Mexico makes that can't be imported from other countries?Who cares about Mexico, the curre t proposal is a 20% tax on all imports. May shift some produccion to usa, but when shit is 90% cheaper to make in China than the usa it will really only increase prices by 20%. Its basically a giant new consumption tax. Timely Hitting
Which is great when you are broke because your job was outsourced. You either believe in a free market or you don't. Acquire skills suited for the market. Manufacturing will never return to the US on the level it once was because the pay demands are too high by employees here. Unless the rest of the world becomes as developed as the US - which is the hope with continued globalization - there will always be somewhere cheaper to produce many goods. Instead of blaming others, look in the mirror and learn a trade or skill that will always be needed. Go to school and learn to code; learn a trade that can't be outsourced. People say they are pro free market, but their actions speak louder than their words.
