Most likely scenario I can put together in retrospect is this:

Afghan cawksuker president lies to our president in the oval office. Tells him that he's not going anywhere and there are 300k troops ready to fight.

Our president knows this guy is full of shit. Knows that the puppet government stands no chance. But his judgement tells him that at least they will be able to fight off the Taliban for a few months. That the fall won't happen overnight, buying us time for a measured withdrawal that doesn't look hasty.

None of that pans out though, and instead everything goes to shit pancakes in two days.

Now if that's how it actually went down, you can blame Bidens judgement for not correctly determining how weak the government really was. Ok fine. But I fail to understand how it's somehow even remotely close to the fault of that cawksuker afghan president, who lied through his teeth and abandoned his own people.

What about that?

That's exactly what happened.  Just two days ago, Biden said it wasn't going to be like Vietnam where they were airlifting people out of the U.S. Embassy.

But he was COMPLETELY wrong.  They had to airlift people out of the embassy.

You don't take someone's word for anything when people's lives are on the line especially the way the rest of the country was already collapsing.

Again, Trump knew the Taliban were the people that needed to be negotiated with.  Biden had no clue.

Part of being Commander-in-Chief is having to own the fuckups. Biden owns the withdrawal fiasco.

The war belongs to Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden.

The civilians falling from C-17s belong to Joe.

Fair enough for me. That's part of being a leader. You make the calls, and have no way of knowing beforehand if you'll be right.

What you absolutely DONT do is pass off ownership of those decisions to someone else. Biden did this a little bit in his speech when he brought up trump, but 90% of that speech was ownership of his call. I respect that more than Trump sending out shitbird emails gloating about the shitty (foregone conclusion) outcome that he avoided pulling the trigger on himself for four years.

Thinking back now...

The difference between this withdrawal and Vietnam was the conduct of the defending soldiers.

We armed and trained the South Vietnamese just like the Afghans. The South Vietnamese however chose to fight for their country.

They were of course eventually overrun, but they went down with a fight.

The cowardly and dishonorable conduct of the Afghan army is truly remarkable.

Shows just how much we were actually wanted in Afghanistan to the rest of the world.

And that's something that Biden never understood.  Even when it was already too late.

Biden did that a little bit?  He blamed Trump, the Afghans, the Afghan President, etc.

Pretty much everyone else.

Sure. And he also specifically owned it. Numerous times. His "blame" of the afghan leader and the failure of their army is not blame so much as it is simply the truth. And Americans needed to hear it.

Again.  He had absolutely no foresight of that or contingency plan.

And he cost people their lives because of it.

Scorpion and the frog.
